Normangee MS Family Newsletter
October 19, 2022
From Mr. Wingfield
So next week, October 24-28, is Red Ribbon Week. Have you ever wondered how Red Ribbon week came to be?
Red Ribbon Week is inspired by the death of Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent Enrique (Kiki) S. Camarena, whom drug traffickers tortured and murdered in 1985. His ultimate sacrifice for our nation continues to serve as a reminder to fight the war on drugs. The theme for 2022 is “Celebrate Life. Live Drug Free.” Sadly, the effects of addiction claim the lives of thousands of people across the nation every year. The week is observed by distributing red ribbons during the last seven days of October. Each October, schools across the nation celebrate being drug free by having dress up days and drug and alcohol education activities.
The dress up days for Normangee ISD are:
Mon- Adam Sandler: "Be like Adam, stay away from drugs."
Tues-Student/Teacher Switch: "Switch teams & stand up against drugs."
Wed-Disney Day: "Don't let drugs cloud your dreams."
Thurs-Covid Outfit (formal top w/ casual bottoms): "Social distance yourself from drugs."
Fri-*Black out* Neon Day: "Too bright for drugs."
As always we need to make sure that all outfits are in good taste and within dress code.
Please check below for new information for REMIND for MS Teachers. Along with parent portal, REMIND can be used to get information on assignments in your students classes. I am receiving these from teachers little by little so all teachers may not be listed below.
If there is any other information you would like to receive through the MS Newsletter, please feel free to email me at jwingfield@normangeeisd.org
As always, if I can help in any way please let me know.

The Capturing Kids Heart focus for October will be Self-Directed Behavior
Self-Direction is the ability and learned skill to cast a vision of future goals and then take intentional steps toward who, where, and what we want to be. Instead of focusing on things to control or avoid, we emphasize our responsibility to make positive choices related to our emotions, attitudes, and actions.
We will be talking to students about positive choices and making sure our actions reflect those.
Our Students of the Month both represent the quality of self-directed behavior and model it daily in class and on the campus.
From the Bus Barn
Please remind your students about continuing to show proper behavior on the buses. We want the bus ride home to reflect the same level of respect we expect in the school building. Disruptive behavior can distract our bus drivers and we want to make sure everyone behaves appropriately and everyone gets home safely.
