Principal Young's Caregiver Update
February 2, 2023
Message from Principal Young
During the month of February our focus for the Glen Hills Way is INCLUSION.
INCLUSION
We are a community that welcomes, includes, affirms, and celebrates individual differences.
We are a community that builds trusting relationships through honest and positive interactions.
This portion of the Glen Hills way focuses on the complexities of one of our school's greatest assets which is our diversity. Diversity comes with the opportunity to grow through learning new ideas, languages, beliefs, experiences, and cultures. This requires educators, students, and families to listen and express themselves in ways that create the space for all to be seen and heard. Practicing this takes patience, the willingness to step outside of oneself, compassion, and empathy. I encourage caregivers to enter into honest and positive discussions with their students around what it looks like and sounds like to include, affirm, and celebrate individual differences at school, home, and in the greater community. Here is a helpful resource for caregivers to consider.
Student Art at the North Shore Library
Do you go to the North Shore Library? Well, if you do, you may see Parkway and Glen Hills student work on display! Glen Hills teachers Jen Clark (STEAM), Angela Malcom (Art) and Parkway teacher Angela McGuire (Art) collaborated with the North Shore Library to display work done by our students in all grade levels! The work includes technical drawing of Wisconsin species from STEAM class, along with 2D and 3D pieces made in art class. The work will be up for the month of February through the beginning of March. March is also Youth Art Month!
We would like to thank parent, Lisa Wanner for connecting us with the North Shore Librarian to set this up. Jen Clark, Angela Malcolm, and Angela McGuire did an outstanding job curating amazing pieces to highlight our student's creative talents.
We encourage our families to visit the North Shore Library and check it out if you have a chance!
