Counselor News from Mrs. Bokinsky
ctober has been a very busy month. In class, students have been learning about bullying. October is National Bullying Prevention Month, so I have taught lessons to all grades about this topic. We have discussed what bullying means and how to take steps to prevent or stop bullying. Students were taught that bullying is a pattern of behavior when a person repeatedly uses power in an intentional manner, including verbal, physical, written, or electronic communication. Together we can stop bullying!
Socktober is coming to an end this Thursday, October 31, 2019. I want to thank our peer mentors and 5th grade students for helping with this “kindness project.” I also want to thank all of the families that sent socks to school for the homeless. All donations will be given to the local homeless shelter.
Pennies for Patients is already off to a great start. We have already raised $375 toward this very important cause. All donations from Pennies for Patients go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to help with blood cancers. Last year we raised over $700. This year our goal is $750. Please remember to take a look at the flyer that was sent home. Students can earn prizes for donating. There are coupons at the bottom of the flyer that parents are to send to me when students raise a certain amount. You can also send me a note letting me know how much your child has raised. This will be the only way I will know what prizes students have earned unless they have raised money online. I do see an online report daily. The Pennies for Patients campaign will run through November 22. For more information, you can visit https://www.penniesforpatients.org/.
We celebrated Character Counts this week. I loved seeing staff and students dressing in the colors of each pillar. We will end the week with the Character Walk. Classes will rotate through Character Counts activities that highlight each pillar of character: Trustworthiness, Fairness, Respect, Responsibility, Citizenship, and Caring. Don’t forget to have your child dress in a book character costume on Friday to celebrate good character!
Feeder Literacy Night
Come enjoy a host of MYSTERIOUS ACTIVITIES!
PK - 5th graders come join us at the
Thurmont Regional Library on Tuesday November 12 from 6-7:45 pm
