Mrs. James' Kindergarten News
February 5, 2016
We had a busy and exciting week! To name a few activities, students worked so hard in literacy centers, learned about classifying different types of objects in science and worked on comparing sets in math. On Wednesday we unfortunately had to say goodbye to our classmates Nicholas and Sebastian since they moved up to New York. We had a nice last day together, playing in their favorite centers and celebrating their new adventure. We miss them so much already and wish them the best of luck in their new school!
Please see below for important information, pictures from this week and our favorite memories with Nicholas. Have a wonderful weekend!
Love,
Mrs. James

Fun memories with Nicholas!
Literacy Centers
We celebrate Mrs. Irshadullah's birthday on Thursday! Happy Birthday Mrs. Irshadullah!
Important Information
1. Valentine's Day Party/Tissue Boxes: Below is a sign up for our Valentine's day celebration. If you are able to bring in a treat for our party, it would be a BIG help! Also, please send in an empty, large, rectangular tissue box by Monday (2/8) so that your child can make a Valentine's day craft. Thank you!
2. "Buy a cutie for your cutie" fundraiser is still happening this week in the cafeteria. Students can bring $2 to send their valentine a special treat! :)
3. Jackets: We are experiencing some Winter weather now :) Please make sure your child comes to school in an appropriate jacket for the weather outside. Also, many jackets are ending up in the lost and found because students go directly from recess to the cafeteria. Please make sure your child's jackets are labeled with their name!
4. Lunches: Please consider purchasing a thermos for your child's hot lunch. Our students have a short time to eat lunch each day. With all students needing to have items warmed up in the microwave, we fear that students may not be eating enough of their lunch!
5. **Donations**
We have some fantastic readers in our class! It makes me one very proud teacher! If you have any books at home (especially nonfiction books) that you are no longer using, please consider donating them to our classroom library! I would greatly appreciate any and all books that we can collect to have more for our students to choose from.
Students have the opportunity to earn "compliments" (tickets) for good behavior that can then be "cashed in" for a prize from the class prize box. I'm asking parents to donate any small prizes that would be appropriate for our box. Please no candy or food! Thank you so much to the families that have donated already! It is GREATLY appreciated!
6. Dr. Seuss Day is coming SOON! (March 2). If you are interested in volunteering, please email me! :)

Sweetheart Breakfast
Valentine's Day is right around the corner and we want to celebrate our sweet parents! Please join all of kindergarten from 7:55 am- 9:15 am in the cafeteria on Friday, February 12. Please feel free to come anytime during this time to enjoy breakfast with your
child. If you come with your kindergartener after 8 am, you will not be considered late. Come on in and relax at breakfast! All refreshments will be prepared by myself, Mrs. Irshadullah, and Ms. Fichter; no donation is necessary. The menu will include a few breakfast favorites such as mini doughnuts, bagels, cream cheese, eggs, yogurts, fresh fruit, orange juice, coffee, tea, waffles, etc. We will try to have a completely Kosher menu but if something is not, we will make sure we let everyone know with a sign in front of the selection!
We look forward to seeing you! :)
Box Tops for Education
This semester the NJHS club is collecting Box Tops for Education for our school! For each Box Top collected, our school will receive 10¢. The homeroom that collects the most Box Tops between now and March 31st will receive a dress down day! Send in any box tops you have with your child from now until March 31st so we can be the winning homeroom :D
**Academic Team Perception Survey**
Mrs. Walsh and Mrs. Stathos will be making a presentation at the RESA STEM conference in March. The title of our talk is "Academic Teams as a Means of Enhancing School Climate." We need some data about parents' perceptions of our Academic Teams and how much of a role our Academic Teams played in their decision to send their child to FSA.
The link to the survey is here: Academic Teams Perception Survey -- Pre-K -- 2nd Grade Parents
FSAPS Maker Faire
We are excited to announce that we will be holding a Maker Faire at FSAPS this semester! A Maker Faire is the best Show (and Tell) on Earth! It is a festival of invention, creativity, and resourcefulness.
All students are invited to create a project to display at our school Maker Faire to be held on our campus. Please refer to the email sent by Mr. Turan this past week to find the project description if your Kindergartener is interested. We would like for students to submit project proposals to ME - their Science teacher by Friday, February 5th. These proposals can change! However, in order to participate you must have one turned in by Friday, February 5th.
Students who participate will have a chance to win an EXCITING award and a cash prize! [Kindergarten-2nd Grade Prizes include: LEGO sets, craft sets, and Snap Circuits!]
I am SO excited to see what CREATIVE things my students will make!
