Fairview Falcon Family Newsletter
November 2022
From the Principal
Dear families,
I cannot believe that the month of November is among us! This school year is speeding by, and from my perspective, there is so much good happening in our building. Teachers are continuing to engage students in project-based learning tasks, instruction outside is still taking place, and last month we began our building-wide academic intervention program for students. The results from the Fairview Fever Festival are in (see below). That event is such a great reminder of what we can accomplish, together, as a school community. For those of you who volunteered in any capacity, thank you so much!
This month, we are looking forward to sitting down with families to discuss growth and achievement of their child that took place in the first trimester. Parent teacher conferences are a very critical part of the school year, and our goal is to meet with 100% of our families during their student's conference. Teachers will confirm appointment times on Friday November 4th in Friday Folders. If you're unavailable during your family's assigned time slot, please reach out and reschedule directly with your child's teacher.
Take care,
Dr. Tyler Simmons, Principal
Mrs. Salas, Assistant Principal is Back !
I am so excited to be back at Fairview! I was the Assistant Principal here during the 20-21 school year and then worked at Derby Ridge last school year. I had my daughter, Genevieve, in August and am excited to be back from my maternity leave. I look forward to working with our students and families again!

Fairview Fever Festival Update
Another fantastic Fever Festival is in the books! Thanks to everyone who contributed by attending the Festival, donating items, volunteering their time and talent, and purchasing wristbands, raffle tickets, and silent auction items. A special thank you to those volunteers who graciously worked an extra shift to cover last-minute cancellations so we could keep all the activities and games open the entire evening. Our goal this year was to net $8,000, but our final numbers indicate that we netted close to $11,500! If you have comments on the Festival or suggestions for next year, email Sarah Maguffee at maguffee4@gmail.com.

From The Gym
Hello Fairview Families đ
Another note from the gym! 3rd, 4th and 5th grade just wrapped up their Physical Fitness Measurements. As I tell the kids, Iâm not concerned with the result but more the effort and using good form. With that said, a lot of kids scored very well and worked hard. All grade levels have been playing games like âCastle Ballâ, âAngry Birdsâ and âBulldozers and Cranesâ. Be sure to ask your kids whatâs going on! Please continue to email or send in photos of your kiddos in action! Iâve received a few and put them up on the bulletin board. Finally, PLEASE help your kiddos remember their tennis shoes. Better teach them how to tie them as well. There have been some situations where kids must sit out of some activities because of unsafe footwear. Might as well wear them every day, I do!! As always, thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Mr. Wright
From the Art Room:
In art, students just finished up our Landscape Unit where each grade level focused on different techniques and standards. Students are getting their finished works posted on SeeSaw. Be sure to check out your students work! All students are beginning our Portrait Unit with a free portrait of their choice before diving into a more specific project. Be sure to ask your student what type of portrait they are creating. Thank you for all you do to support their creativity! Please feel free to contact me lrobb@cpsk12.org.

Technology
Technology Specials
We have continued our work in Electronic Library and learning what a great resource that is for helping with our research projects. Younger grades have been exploring in Pebble Go and Brain Pop Jr. Grades two through five have also been working and getting more experience in Google Docs.
Enjoy your autumn months!

From the Media Center
The Media Center has been a busy place! Students are finding lots of great books, and we are starting to get in some new books this school year. They are excited about the book fair! I finished a Project Lead the Way module with 1st grade on Animal Adaptations. 3rd through 5th grade classes have been introduced to Comics Plus and Sora magazines, both available in the Portal in the Electronic Library.
They are great digital reading resources for our students!

From the Music Room
In music, we have been singing and moving to fall themed music. Younger grades sang about spiders, pumpkins, bats, and much more. In the older grades, we sang Aaron Carterâs I Want Candy and composed our own candy rhythms to perform on drums and xylophones. Grades 2 â 5 have also been celebrating Filipino American History month by learning how to Tinikle. Tinikling is a traditional Filipino folk dance which involves dancing over and in between two moving bamboo poles. It has been a ton of fun! Thanksgiving songs are right around the corner which can only mean one thingâŚSuuuuuuper Turkey will be making an appearance in all grade levels very soon! Winter will be upon us soonâŚ. In the event that school is cancelled or we have a late start due to inclement weather, families can download a free mobile app for Android and iPhone that can be downloaded to a smart device to access school and school district information. CPS Messages are delivered directly to the mobile app.
