ESSENTIAL BULLING GUIDE FOR CHILDREN AND PARENTS !!!
INTRODUCING THE TOPIC BULLING!
Bulling is a major part of our society and can ruin your time at school but we won't let that happen.
TYPES OF BULLING!
Physical bullying:
Involves hitting, shoving, pushing, tripping, and other kinds of force.
Verbal bullying:
Involves hurtful comments, name-calling, and teasing.
Social bullying:
Involves spreading rumors about another person, purposely leaving someone out of an activity or group or embarrassing a person in public.
Cyber Bulling:
Involves abusive or hurtful texts, emails, posts, images or videos, deliberate excluding others online, nasty comments or rumors and intimating others online or using their login.
Mental Bulling:
Also referred to as emotional abuse or mental abuse, is a form of abuse characterized by a person subjecting or exposing another to behavior that may result in psychological trauma, including anxiety, chronic depression, or post-traumatic stress disorder.
STRATEGIES TO DEAL WITH BULLYING
Ignoring the bully may be helpful bullies are looking for a reaction from you.
- walk away when the bully approaches you
- have a saying that you can repeat in your head when the bully approaches you.
Build A Wall Around You:
It may be helpful to build an invisible wall around you so when any verbal abuse is used it just bounces off the wall.
Stay Positive:
It can be hard to remember all your good points when someone is doing their best to be negative. However try to think of all the things you do well and that you are a valuable person.
Hang Around Other People:
It will help you to stay around other people with a positive vibe.
Be Confident:
Bullies usually pick on people that they perceive are weaker than them so it may help if you stand up to them.
- Telling them to leave you alone.
-Tell a adult you trust to help you.
- Use positive self talk - saying to yourself something like "I know I am better than that, I don't have to pick on other people to know that I am good."
- Remember that your friends accept you for who you are.
Keep Out Of Their Way:
Avoiding the places that they hang out. This is not giving in to the bullying rather it is looking after yourself and ensuring you are happier and more comfortable.
Tell Someone Else:
To stop the bullying it can be helpful to tell someone that you are being bullied. This may seem scary at first however telling someone can lighten your load and help you to work out how to solve the problem.People that are best talking to are Friends, teachers, a school counsellor or your parents may be helpful people to tell. If you feel more comfortable take a friend with you to chat to these people.
Seeking Help:
Bullying can lead to you feeling a whole lot of emotions. Speaking to your local doctor, counsellor or youth worker about it may help you understand these feelings and come up with strategies to cope with the situation.
EFFECTS OF BULLYING
- feel disconnected from school and not like school
- have lower academic outcomes, including lower attendance and completion rates
- lack quality friendships at school
- display high levels of emotion that indicate vulnerability and low levels of resilience
- be less well accepted by peers, avoid conflict and be socially withdrawn
- have low self-esteem
- have depression, anxiety, feelings of loneliness and isolation
- have nightmares
- feel wary or suspicious of others
- have an increased risk of depression and substance abuse
