The Battle of Midway
The Battle of Midway was known as the "turning point in the war" during World War II. This battle, one of many during the war, was fought in the Pacific against the Japanese. The Americans were able to beat the Japanese in this battle because they were able to break the Japanese fleet codes to find out that the Japanese were planning to invade a target relatively close to Pearl Harbor to draw out the American fleet and then the Japanese would be prepared to crush them. This entire battle was fought by plane. The Americans suck 4 fleet carriers - Akagi, Kaga, Soryu, and Hiryu - along with 322 aircraft and over 5,000 sailors. The Americans lost 147 aircraft and more than 300 seamen during the Battle of Midway.
Who Was Franklin D. Roosevelt?
Franklin D. Roosevelt was the President of the United States of America from 1933 to 1945. He was born on January 30, 1882 and died on April 12, 1945. Roosevelt died while serving his 4th term as president in the White House. Roosevelt was known for his program for relief during the Great Depression called the New Deal, which helped the United States go from 25 percent unemployment to 14 percent. President Roosevelt had brought the United States out of high unemployment also by joining World War II in 1941 after the attack on Pearl Harbor because the war had provided jobs for the people in factories to help assemble and produce war weapons and equipment. Roosevelt was one of the United States best presidents and he will be remembered for years to come! Harry S. Truman has taken the role of President since Roosevelt's death and has helped bring the United States out of World War II.
