FHS Bookclub is coming!
The FHS Library will be hosting a bookclub for students on Monday, November 7th during periods 6, 7 or 8. Students may attend during their lunch hour. We will be discussing Gabi, A Girl in Pieces by Isabel Quintero. Please encourage your students to attend.
Celebrate Media Literacy Week, October 31-Nov. 7
Media Literacy is the ability to analyze, access, evaluate, communicate and create using any form of media. Start the week off by having students analyze some campaign ads. A great lesson called Teaching About Propaganda Using Political Ads is available online. More resources are available at Common Sense Media.org and Project Look Sharp.
More sites for a lesson plan in a hurry.
Readworks.org is committed to improving student literacy one step at a time. They have lexile labeled text sets with thought provoking questions. The site is free, registration required.
Newsela.com has a daily lesson plan tied to the news. Each article comes in three versions, meeting the needs of all students.
The Learning Blog of the NY Times has a new look. It is now called The Learning Network. An article a day is published specifically geared to teens, again with questions and very often a video. There are separate sections for each subject area, as well as daily puzzles and weekly challenges and contests.
