Volume 1 ~ Issue 7 ~ Week of August 28, 2022
Message from the Principal
It's Progress Report Week!! Progress Reports come out this Friday, September 2nd. That means that you will get to see the results of the work your child has (or hasn't) done over the past six weeks! Are there a few remaining assignments they need to finish before the grade deadline??
- Send them to after-school tutoring each day this week to get help from our very own MVA teachers!
- Students with a D or F in Citizenship on the progress report will be placed on the Non-Privileged list. This means they will be unable to attend any special event that occurs on campus, including but not limited to, Viking rallies and dances.
While it's important to point out the things our students can do to improve, it is also important to celebrate the good things they do! After two sit-down lunches the week prior, I want to commend our Viking students on their improved behavior this week at lunch and nutrition break. It's not 100% yet, but it is definitely going in the right direction. Keep it up, Vikings!
Over the past two weeks in our Advisory class, students have been learning about the effects of bullying and cyberbullying. Unfortunately, we continue to see it occurring, especially on social media. Parents, we need your help! Please do the following to help us curb the cyberbullying happening around campus:
- Create rules for your child's internet use. Limit how much they are on social media and put a curfew in place for when they need to stop.
- Educate yourself and your child about the effects of cyberbullying.
- Know what your child is doing online. There are many apps available for parents to have more control or oversight of their child's phone.
- Know your child's email accounts, screennames, account names, profiles, etc. and check them frequently. Most of the cyberbullying is occurring on anonymous accounts which means it's not your child's primary account.
There is zero tolerance for any kind of bullying at MVA. If we find out who it is, the student will be disciplined to the fullest extent, including, but not limited to suspension or even expulsion. Parents/Guardians, thank you in advance for helping us to keep MVA a safe environment for all of our students, both on and off campus.
My first Coffee with the Principal is coming up this Thursday, September 1st. It will be hosted both in-person and online, for your convenience! A bonus for attending: you get early access to your child's progress report!! Check out the flyer below for more details and I hope to see you there!
Wishing you a great Week 7, Vikings!
Take care,
Ms. Scott

Help fund College Visits for our AVID students!!
Mar Vista Academy School's AVID/AVID EXCEL program is a schoolwide college and career readiness initiative designed to increase the number of students who enroll and succeed in higher education and in their lives beyond high school. Our Vikings attend a Title 1 school, and most will be the first in their family to attend a 4-year university. Our goal is to provide
our AVID/AVID Excel leaders with many experiences to create individualized career and college plans for their futures.
This spring, we will take our 7th and 8th students to visit various California Colleges. For most of these students, this will be the first time they step foot on a college campus. This trip will allow them to see how higher education is a viable opportunity. The money donated will provide transportation while we are exploring our college options. We would appreciate any amount. Your contributions will help students be able to expand their horizons toward a brighter future.
