Dear Alto Families,
We are excited for the start of March is Reading Month! Alto All Stars love to read, and it’s always exciting to celebrate this in extra special ways during the month of March. Please see the calendar below for a list of activities. We will kick things off with a Spirit Week next week. There are several reading challenges and classroom competitions that will make this an exciting and engaging month. Not included in the calendar are mystery virtual readers from the community and virtual guest visits from our amazing KDL staff!
Happy Reading!
Mr. Papes
It's time for GYM!
As the calendar flips to March and the temperatures begin to creep, I cannot resist daydreaming about teaching physical education in shorts again. Yet, as much as I love wearing shorts, I am sad to see us transition away from a great stretch of winter weather that gave us so many opportunities for outdoor fun. I have seen countless student-built snowmen and snow forts and have heard of many thrilling student stories of sledding, skiing, and snowboarding. This is exactly what winter is supposed to be.
Alto physical education has been confined to the gym since our snow shoeing unit, but this has not dampened our fun. A couple of weeks ago, we were fortunate enough to be able to partake in a lacrosse unit. This was the first time we have done lacrosse since I have been at Alto and it was a hit. The students learned how to scoop, throw, and dabbled with some catching. A big shout out and thank you goes to the Lowell Youth Lacrosse Foundation for supplying us with all the necessary equipment.
This week we finished up our two-week floor hockey unit. Students worked on stick handling, passing, and shooting. We worked on most skills in isolation and then implemented those skills while playing hockey games. You never realize just how competitive Alto students are until you put them in a game setting with a hockey stick in their hands.
Next week we will be starting our basketball unit. I am sure going to miss the boys asking me every single class about when we are going to do basketball. Our basketball unit will be followed by volleyball. I am sure going to miss the girls asking me every single class about when we are going to do volleyball. It should be a good stretch of Alto PE!
Please make sure to send your student with appropriate athletic shoes on physical education days. Stay healthy, keep active, and do not forget to watch Michigan Wolverine Basketball!

Office Notes
With the warmer, sunnier weather comes wet and muddy playgrounds! Unfortunately we do not have extra clothing in the office if your child needs to change. Please have an extra set of clothes, and an extra mask, in their backpack.
The lost and found pile is growing and growing! If your student is missing gloves, a hat, jacket, sweatshirt, have them stop into the cafeteria to take a look!
Video Bible Lessons
Hi! My name is Aleta Hall.
I usually teach in Released-Time Bible Classes in your area but with the pandemic, in-person classes are not the safest option right now. That is why I have started recording video Bible lessons so that they can be enjoyed at home or on the go. I upload one video every month about a different story from the Bible along with a lesson that can be learned from that story. You will also find an introductory video and a video about the theme for this year: the fruit of the Spirit. If you are interested, you can find them all by going to this link here or you can use the address at the bottom. If you would like to be notified when a new video is posted, feel free to email me at abdodge@rocketmail.com along with any questions or concerns that you may have.
