November 2022
Message from the desk of Justin Mewborn
Dear VCMS Families,
November has been a fantastic month here at VCMS. Our basketball teams are off to exciting starts to their seasons. Clubs are meeting regularly and have a large number of students involved. One of our 4 R’s here at VCMS is to be reflective upon our work and our growth. We are thankful that we have the opportunity to work with your children. Our community support here at VCMS helps us to create many wonderful opportunities for your children to find success in their educational journey. We are grateful for our supportive VCMS school community.
We only have a little over three weeks left in first semester. Most communication regarding grades and assessments can be found in Parent Portal. Information about assignments and upcoming assessments or what students covered in class day-to-day can be found in ItsLearning. ItsLearning is also a great communication tool between your child and their teacher. As a reminder, academic courses in middle school have continuous grades throughout each semester. This means that if a student is not doing well during the first quarter, they still have time to make improvements before the end of the 2nd quarter (or the end of the 1st semester in December). It takes a village to provide the needed supports for students during this time period. Your continued partnership with the school is vital to your child’s development as they learn the life skills to wrestle with challenging assignments and growing into adults.
At the end of December, students who have demonstrated consistently the 4R’s (Responsible, Respectful, Ready to Succeed, and Reflective), will be awarded by having the opportunity to attend our 2nd quarter FangFest. This will be time for those students who have not received any minor incident reports or major office referrals for the quarter to be recognized. Any students who are not able to attend will have a normal PowerTime. Each quarter this resets, so if your child did receive a behavior infraction, they can try again for 3rd quarter!
We are also busy preparing for our annual International Food Fest on December 9th. Students are working hard creating their “booth” and preparing for this night of celebration. We hope to see you there! Doors open to the public at 5:30. More information can be found in this newsletter.
Mr. Feldkamp also would like to remind our community that he will be more than happy to attend Homeowner Association meetings for subdivisions who reside in the Vickery Creek Middle School district. During these visits, he will share information about Vickery Creek Middle School and provide insight to middle school life. If you are an HOA board member and would like to have him attend one of your monthly, semi-annual, or annual HOA meeting, please click on the link below.

BOOK FAIR - Media Center
From the generosity of our community in donating blow pops and prizes, to the many parents and grandparents who volunteered their time to help run the fair - WE COULD NOT DO IT WITHOUT YOU!
This fall we raised money to continue our Chromelab enhancement - new chairs to go with the tables we ordered last year, as well as blinds for our windows. Additionally, our media center will have some exciting new items to draw students into our space following the holiday break - be on the lookout for more information soon.
Exciting times! The Media Center is so much more than just books :)
I hope parents, students, and teachers enjoyed our fall book fair. Before we know it, it will be time to do it all over again in the spring.
With much appreciation,

Love it...Mr. Stevenson really tells a heartfelt story about the issues of our justice system in our country.

This book provides a wonderful depiction of the saga of the wolf. From its decimation to its return to Yellowstone, it captures the conflict between humans and nature perfectly. The blend of historical facts with the charismatic presence of the lead wolves this is one of the best books I've read this year.
Read by Ms. Cincere
This novel was extremely thought out and beautifully written. Petra and her family's bond is strong and loving; however the sinister Collective's thirst for power is boundless. This Science Fiction has you experience the gamut of emotions and rooting on the protagonist while questioning who the real antagonist is throughout the journey this novel takes you on. It was a quick nd incredible read that will instantly pull you in!
