Mass Readings for Sunday, November 8: Thirty Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
In Matthew's Gospel this weekend, Jesus teaches us through this Parable of the Ten Virgins to always be prepared and ready for Him. One day, we will meet Jesus and our Heavenly Father. Since we do not know when this time will come, we pray and prepare so that we may always be ready.
In this story, the bridegroom is Jesus and we are the people waiting for them to arrive. The people who had enough oil in their lamps were "prepared," and went directly to the wedding feast. In the parable, Jesus called them ‘wise’, because they thought ahead, and not just about the moment. They were prepared no matter what was going to happen, and they were rewarded for it. These are the people we should strive to be like.
But the people who were not prepared were not ready to attend the wedding feast. Because they did not plan ahead and have enough oil in their lamp, they did not attend the wedding when it was time. By the time they made it to the wedding, it was too late and the doors were closed. These were the people Jesus called ‘foolish’ and said we shouldn’t be like. They didn’t think ahead at all. By the time they were ready, it was too late. They weren’t prepared and they missed out.
In this parable, Jesus uses the example of the wedding feast to represent being ready to greet Him in Heaven. We never know when it will be time to go to Heaven, so we need to make sure we are ready all the time, no matter what. We want to make the choice to accept and follow Jesus and have Him live in our hearts! We don’t know when it will be time, but we sure don’t want to miss it!

Uplift Video of the Week!
Dancing together during this election vote!
As this week's election brought record number of voters, voting locations had long lines of people waiting to cast their vote.
In this Philadelphia voting location, voters broke the monotony of the long voting lines by breaking out into a group line dance to the Mississippi Cha Cha Slide!
