Pawsome News
April 13, 2020
Dear Pawsome Loring Families,
Sudbury Learns from Home went into effect last week. We have heard lots of positives and some hiccups as we had anticipated. I appreciate your patience and partnership as we work together to brainstorm and troubleshoot the ways to best support our students. Our teachers, technology department, front office staff, curriculum leaders and administration are working to ensure that all students can access learning and most importantly feel connected to our Pawsome Loring community. This remote learning is going to look different in each home as families have different circumstances and priorities right now, so please do your best to make it work for your home and your child(ren). Whatever your family and child(ren) can handle during this time is the Best Effort we are looking for. Our dedicated educators, mental health team and David and me are here to support you through this time. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you need any sort of help.
During this new learning phase, extension activities posted through sudburystudents.org will remain accessible. These activities can provide valuable suggestions which you may wish to access in order to extend or enrich learning opportunities at home.
I also wanted to make sure you knew that the Sudbury School Committee voted to remain in session during April vacation, exempting April 20th in observance of Patriot’s Day. This means that the last day of school will now be June 17th.
Be well,
Sara
Ways to Support Sudbury Residents During COVID-19
Resources for Families During the School Closure
I know I have shared these before but I want you to have them handy if you need them. Here are some links to resources that may be helpful to your family during this time.
- Link #1 is related to food and other resources for families during school closures
- Link # 2 is for the Sudbury Town Social Worker. The Town Social Workers provide resources, referrals, and public health education to town residents of all ages.
Loring has a wonderful Mental Health Team here to support your child and their needs during this time. Feel free to reach out to them if you have any questions or feel they may be of assistance whether you or your child have worked with them before or not.

Virtual Science Fair
Have you heard the news? Our amazing PTO has decided to forge ahead with a virtual science fair!
Please join us for Loring's first ever virtual science fair. Students can complete any science project that is reasonable within the confines of social distancing and what we each currently have on hand within our homes.
Maybe it's a true experiment,
Maybe it's something they learn from a virtual museum or zoo visit,
Maybe it's going around the yard and looking for different signs of Spring.
The possibilities are endless.
They should submit either:
A short (~3min) video presenting the project or narrating a photo of the project
A short summary write-up of the project, with or without a picture.
Each submission will be stitched together into a montage for each grade and the video montages will be available to watch from home.
Please submit your student's virtual project to loringexpo@gmail.com by April 17th.
If anyone has experience with creating these sorts of montages the PTO is also looking for volunteers to help with this.
