Senior March Madness - Choosing the Winner in Your College Search
The big college decision is approaching. It's time for a head-to-head match up of your accepted schools to determine the final winner! This is a big choice that you'll need to consider carefully, but you have many resources to help you figure out which school comes out on top. Talk to your guidance counselor, your family, and your Crosby Scholars Senior Advisor for advice. You can also use this tool for your head-to-head comparison.
Here are a few more things to keep in mind:
- Offers of admission are conditional upon review of your final transcript. Keep performing at the same competitive level throughout this semester so your grades don't drop. Your college will review your final transcript and may revoke your acceptance if you've performed below the college’s acceptable standards.
- Social media that does not align with the schools' standards can also trigger a school to revoke your admission, so post thoughtfully.
- No college can require you to commit to attending prior to May 1, the National Candidates Reply Date, with the exception of Early Decision or NCAA athletic scholarship programs.
- Attend prospective student events at the colleges to which you were admitted.
- If you've been offered a spot on a college’s Waitlist, learn what you need to do next. Be sure to commit to another school you've been accepted to and pay your deposit by May 1st, even if you're staying on the waitlist.
- When you've received financial aid awards, compare them carefully and ask questions if you don’t understand the awards. Remember to prioritize grants and scholarships (free money) ahead of work-study, which is dependent on you being able to get a work-study job, and loans, which you'll eventually have to pay back.
- Once you've made your final enrollment decision, notify the other colleges that accepted you that you will not attend as soon as possible so they can offer your spot to someone else.
- Add your college name to your Crosby Scholars student portal.
