Program Options for Grades K-7
SUNDAY CLASSROOM PROGRAM (Grades 1-7)
- A traditional classroom setting with a catechist (teacher) for each grade level that meets weekly on Sundays between our two Masses from 9:30am until 10:20am, allowing your family to attend Mass either before or after class.
- In addition, monthly Family Events will be offered to encourage participation in our parish community, foster service to others, help us learn about the liturgy, and especially to grow in our faith together.
- An intergenerational program for all ages that focuses on a unique Faith Topic each month.
- Once each month all families come together to explore that month’s Faith Topic in an interactive learning approach designed for the entire family.
- During the rest of the month, families choose one family at-home lesson each week from a “playlist” of possible activities that reflect that month’s Faith Topic.
- In addition, monthly Family Events will be offered to encourage participation in our parish community, foster service to others, help us learn about the liturgy, and especially to grow in our faith together.
The final calendar for the year for both programs will be available in late July.
Classes begin September 25, 2022
Registration for SACRAMENT PREPARATION to Open Soon!
First Sacrament Preparation (Penance and Eucharist)
- Our First Sacrament Preparation is a separate program from Faith Formation classes and will focus on preparing children for the Sacraments of First Penance and First Holy Communion.
- It is taught as a Parent & Child program that meets 1-2 times per month throughout the school year on weekday evenings, along with two Family Retreats held on Saturday mornings.
- The Sacrament of First Penance is prepared for and celebrated in the fall while the Sacrament of First Eucharist is prepared for in the winter / spring and celebrated right after Easter.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible to begin preparation for First Sacraments, a child must
- be Baptized into the Catholic Faith
- have ALREADY COMPLETED at least ONE FULL YEAR of Faith Formation (Religious Education or Catholic School) in Grade 1 or higher.
- be currently enrolled IN THEIR SECOND FULL YEAR (Religious Education or Catholic School) in Grade 2 or higher.
Why do families enroll their child in two separate programs for Faith Formation and First Sacraments? The Faith Formation classes will provide the necessary foundation of our faith and core beliefs that will help them to better understand what we will share with them in Sacrament Preparation, which focuses specifically on the Sacraments of Penance and Eucharist.
Registration and Calendar information will be available soon.
Confirmation Preparation Years I and II (Grade 8 and up)
- Students in Grade 8 and above may register for Confirmation Preparation.
- Confirmation Year I must be completed before enrolling in Confirmation Year II.
- Students will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in the spring of their Year II program.
For those students not enrolled in Catholic School, it is encouraged that Grades 6 and 7 Faith Formation (Religious Education) be completed prior to entering Confirmation Preparation. This will help provide the necessary catechetical understanding and foundation of our faith and core beliefs upon which we build in Confirmation Preparation. However, youth in Grades 8+ who have NOT completed Grades 6 and 7 Faith Formation are still welcome to enroll in Confirmation Preparation.
Registration and Calendar information will be available soon.
Rite of Christian Initiation for Children (RCIC) Registration Now Open
What is RCIC?
The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults adapted for Children (RCIC) is designed for children and youth over 7 years of age who may have a desire to join the Catholic Church through Baptism, or to prepare for the reception of the Sacraments they have missed since Baptism (First Holy Communion and Confirmation). Along with a parent, godparent, or sponsor, they will attend RCIC classes on a regular basis beginning in October and continuing through the Easter Season.

YOUTH MINISTRY NEWS
Youth Service Hours (Grades 6 and up)
Why should teens volunteer?
The benefits youth receive from volunteering include: learning to respect others, learning to be helpful and kind, learning to understand people who are different, developing leadership skills, becoming more patient, and gaining a better understanding of citizenship. It also helps teens gain new skills necessary for college and the job market such as communication skills, dependability, time management, and decision making.
And serving others is what Jesus wants us to do!
One of Mother Teresa's favorite texts in the Bible, which she often quoted to support her ministry to the poor, is "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me" (Matthew 25:40, 45). "Least" does not mean less, rather it is those who are humbled or vulnerable, such as those who are sick or poor. It is those who may be mentally or physically disabled. It could be the very young or the very old. Maybe it is someone having a bad or sad day. Truly, it could be anyone around you at any time. Like Jesus, his followers should be concerned about the needs of "the least of these".
Each year, we ask our Middle and High School Faith Formation students to serve others in their community for a specified number of Christian Service Hours:
- Grade 6 = 6 Hours
- Grade 7 = 7 Hours
- Confirmation Year I = 8 Hours
- Confirmation Year II = 10 Hours
Check back here each month for an updated list of youth service opportunities in our parish and community. You are always welcome to email Tricia.Kull@dor.org for additional ideas at any time.
THANK YOU PARENTS for your support in encouraging your children to find ways to help others and share the love and light of Christ in our community!!

Do you love to read? Do you enjoy time with Jesus in prayer? If you do, you may be just who we are calling to serve as a Lector for our weekend Mass celebrations.
