What we're learning this week...
Phonics: Y as a vowel
Book: Insect Detective by Steve Voake
Reading Strategies: Using our schema (what we already know) to help us learn about insects, adding new information to our schema, making an inference
Math: Addition and subtraction word problems, 2D and 3D shapes, numbers to 100, number handwriting practice, fluency of addition and subtraction within 10, partners of 10 (how to make 10)
Writing: Using a graphic organizer to organize our thinking and plan our writing, informational writing: animal research projects, letter formation (handwriting practice), 5 star writing rubric (finger spaces, proper punctuation, capital letters at the beginning of the sentence, spelling sight words correctly, does my writing make sense?)
Social Studies: American Legend: Pocahontas
Science: Butterfly Life Cycle, All About Insects
Religion: Holy Communion, Jesus gives us peace, Sign of Peace, bringing peace to others, making peace, Lord’s Prayer
Social Skills: Following directions and working with others
Virtue: Stewardship
Social and Emotional Learning: identifying problems: children discuss the first two steps in solving problems (stop, talk) and practice identifying and stating problems presented in scenarios.
