Prestwick LEarns - Life Lessons from Kindness
According to an article on Doing Good Together.org, families often struggle with finding the balance of teaching children self advocacy along with kindness. "To be strong and appear smart, we are told, we must never compromise. We must be louder than the person next to us. We must move forcefully through our opposition. Our children are watching this whole process. If we fall into the trap of believing that brute force and aggression are more admirable than compassion, our children will too. While I strive to teach my children to speak up for their beliefs, I also want to teach them the courage and the strength of acting with kindness."
Take time to review this infographic above and talk with your children about the solutions we find through compromise. We will continue to focus on seeing things from various perspectives, being solution focused and serving one another through small acts of service and kindness. We will also focus these life lessons that make our Prestwick FamiLE the very best it can be. #bettertogether #prestwickproud
P.S. We have shared a few ideas for acts of kindness as well if you family wishes to participate in these.

On December 2nd, we celebrate National Special Education Day in which we commemorate the anniversary of the nation’s first federal special education law. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) was signed into law on December 2, 1972. IDEA made education available to all American children and this day honors the progress that has been made in special education.
In honor of this day we would like to put a spotlight on our inclusion teachers, Mrs. Cindy DelCambre and Mr. Tyler Summers.
Mr. Summers was born, raised, and is currently living in his hometown of Krum, Texas. He graduated from LeTourneau University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies and is certified grades 4-8, Special Education, and Educational Aide.
An aspect that Mrs. Summers loves about being an inclusion teacher is that he is able to work with all kids, of all grades, and with various needs. Each year, Mr. Summers’ educational goal is to support and build his students confidence in helping them find success each day. “I'm excited to see my students grow and achieve more than they ever thought possible.”
Ms. DelCambre is excited to begin my 19th year in education in Texas and am honored to be a part of the Prestwick STEM Academy family. Prior to this assignment, I was the Special Education teacher at Zellars Elementary. She started my teaching career in general education teaching second grade.
She is originally from Mississippi but have lived all over the south. She has two sons and they live in McKinney.
When she is not at school, she treasures time with family and friends. Additionally she loves to cook, read, decorate her home, and find new ways to save money! She has one pet, a tortoiseshell cat named Jazz.
She is looking forward to a fantastic year, helping each of my students be successful everyday at school!
180 Degree Program for 8th Graders
Dear Parents/Guardians,
On December 12th & 13th we will have a guest speaker from the 180 Degrees Program come to speak to the 8th graders at Prestwick STEM Academy. The presenter will discuss how to set boundaries, how to develop healthy relationships, the importance of abstinence until marriage, current Sexually Transmitted Disease/Sexually Transmitted Infection statistics, teen pregnancy rates, abusive relationships, and how past negative choices don’t have to define the future. If you DO NOT allow your child to hear this presentation, then please sign and return this form by Monday, December 9th. This program is geared toward 8th grade students and will be very beneficial.
