Fall Final Exam Exemption Information
All high school semester exams may be comprehensive and must measure the mastery of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. Semester exams shall count 15% of the grade. Semester exams are final and are not subject to retesting. Semester exams are the exception not the standard; each student will be required to take a semester exam unless he/she earns the exemption.
A student may earn exemptions by having a semester average of 80 or higher in the class for which the student is seeking an exam exemption, and two or fewer absences in the class for which the student is seeking an exam exemption prior to the day of the semester exam. All absences are counted per class period whether excused or unexcused with the following documented exceptions: participation in school-sponsored activities, religious holidays, and pre-approved college visits. Exemption totals per student are identified below:
Freshmen - 1 exam exemption per semester
Sophomores - 2 exam exemptions per semester
Juniors - 3 exam exemptions per semester
Seniors - 4 exam exemptions per semester
Students who have a DAEP placement, JJAEP placement, in-school suspension, or out-of-school suspension are not eligible for exemption. If a student does not meet standard on an EOC in the previous year, he/she is not eligible for exemption in the corresponding course.
Students are required to attend classes in which they are exempt on examination days. An exemption is an exam exemption and not an attendance exemption. Students receiving exemptions are encouraged to take the examination and have it scored. If the examination score will improve a student’s grade average, it will be calculated as part of the semester average. Otherwise, the examination grade will not be counted.
Students can pick up exemption forms in December.
Important Information about Electronic Cigarettes and "Dab Pens"
We want to make everyone aware of an important, dangerous issue we are seeing in increasing amounts at CHS. We are having more and more issues of students in possession of electronic cigarettes or vapes as well as students in possession of “Dab Pens”. Both items are in violation of BISD Student Code of Conduct and are illegal in Texas.
It is illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to be in possession of an electronic cigarette whether on campus or not. Students who are caught with an e-cig will have it confiscated, will be punished according to the BISD Student Code of Conduct, and will have the matter turned over to the Burleson Police Department. There is an increasing amount of information about the dangerous nature of these products.
Dab pens are a much more serious issue. A dab pen is something which is used purely for the consumption of dabs. Dabs are tiny little concentrates of THC, the active ingredient in marijuana. The chemical is consumed in this fashion instead of your more traditional dry herb or e-liquid. A dab pen is made up of the same components as a vape pen, and works more or less in the same way.
In Texas, even possessing THC concentrates in any amount or form is a felony for anyone, regardless of age, which many people don't realize until after they are charged. A misdemeanor charge will result in a fine up to $1,000 and a possible jail sentence of up to six months. Students in possession of a dab pen will be placed at Right Turn Discipline Center. The pen will be sent to the Burleson Police Department lab for testing. If the results show any amount of THC, the student will be sent to a Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Center for at least 45 school days. There is one JJAEP center in Cleburne (for Johnson County residents) and another in Fort Worth (for Tarrant County residents).
We encourage each of you to please discuss the health dangers of these products with your child as well as the consequences of possession of these items at school. Our goal is to always have students on campus and in class, however, we will do all that we can to protect the health of students as well as making sure we follow the law.

Students on Campus Prior To and After School Hours
The last class of the day ends at 4:15 p.m. Students who are not participating in a school sponsored activity or with a teacher for tutorials should exit the building and leave campus by 4:45 p.m.
Students who choose to remain in the building after hours will be asked to exit the building.
Tardy Policy
CHS has partnered with Student Conductor in the implementation of a new, more effective tardy processing system. Here are the things that you need to know.
There are multiple tardy check-in kiosk stations located throughout the school.
When tardy, the student will use the nearest check-in kiosk station to get them back into class efficiently.
Every time a student is tardy, an email is sent to a parent/guardian notifying them that the student was tardy. Any discipline assigned will also be notified to the parent/guardian.
If a discipline is being assigned for the student being tardy then the student must serve the discipline by the appointed time. If a student needs to reschedule a discipline, they are required to arrange with their House Office PRIOR to the original time of the discipline they were to have served. Failure to do so may result in an escalation of discipline. This system allows your principals, coaches, sponsors, counselors, and parents to easily track what disciplines have been served thereby increasing accountability.
The process is simple when a student is tardy.
Teachers will close their door when the tardy bell rings. Students who are late must then go to the nearest Tardy Station.
Scan or type the Student ID into the Tardy Station.
The student takes the tardy receipt and reads the discipline that has been assigned for being tardy.
The student reports to class and shows the tardy receipt to their teacher as a pass to class.
The student serves the assigned discipline, if applicable.
Keep in mind that all tardy stations are monitored and further discipline will occur with the improper use of a check-in tardy station.
Consequences of tardiness can be avoided by students showing up on time for class.
Tardy Consequences - total tardies per six weeks across all classes - starts over each six weeks

Tardy 7 - After School Detention - Tuesdays/Thursdays 4:30-5:30
Tardy 8 - After School Detention - Tuesdays/Thursdays 4:30-5:30
