The Hard Knock Life
Solutions to the hardship of those living in North Korea
How Do You Define North Korea?
What pops into your head when you think of the communist North Korea? It couldn't be any more blocked from the rest from the rest of the world, with no personal freedoms and the citizens with no protection. However, there are many ways to solve the growing problem in North Korea, and below I have two, one of which you can be a part of.
North Korean Timeline/Back-round Information
- 1945 - Japan's rule over Korea ends with its World War II surrender
- 1948 - Korea is divided between the North (Soviet backed) and South (U.S backed)
- 1950-1953 - Korean War
- 1994 - Death of Kim Il-sung, leadership passed over to his son Kim Jong-il
- 1998 - North Korea fires its first long-range missile
- 2002 - US names North Korea as part of an "axis of evil"
- 2006 - North Korea conducts first underground nuclear test
- 2011 - Kim Jong-il dies, leadership passed to his youngest son Kim Jong-un
Send Letters
The government would most likely not allow this, but if people in other countries were able to write and send letters for the Korean government to read on how wrong communist is and how they should improve the lives of citizens, this might make the leaders realize what they are doing is something everyone realizes as not good . As though the whole worlds' eyes are on them. This could influence the government to also start allowing freedom of religion, and the freedom to speak up.
Government Step Back
As of today, citizens in North Korea are not allowed to leave to outside the country, let alone the inside of the country. If the citizens were allowed to travel easier, and if they could afford to leave the country, the leaders in N.Korea could possibly change their ways if they saw many of their citizens leaving. Those who could not move out of the country would benefit from a government that would probably start to change towards a democracy, or an Oligarchy at least.
