Gandhi and Thoreau
Henry David Thoreau and Mahatma Gandhi are quite similar as both share the common goal of change in the government and peoples lives. Thoreau shows what we can do to make a difference and Gandhi shows how to do it. Gandhi's fought for independence started of small, but it sparked a change that as time passed it grew until it achieved its goal "For it matters not how small the beginning may seem to be: what is once well done is done forever" (Thoreau 3). Through this Gandhi and Thoreau both proved that size doesn't matter, what truly matters are the intention and the amount of work you are willing to put in to achieve your goal. Thoreau's article number five proved that people's point of views have changed a lot as the years have gone by, not as many people stand up to the government as they used to before, this has lead to the drastic decrease in civil disobedience, its like if people " think that, if they should resist, the remedy would be worse then the evil" (Thoreau 2). It is sad to see how much people have changed, from many willing to be civil disobedient and rebellious to loner being willing to risk anything.
