News From Nighthawk Nation
Elevating Excellence in Academics, Character & Community
Edition 18 - Week of 1/27/2020
Leadership Corner
Mary Baker - K-3 Principal
This week, many classes reached classroom goals for behavior. We are very proud of our students working together to reach their goal. Kindergarten students are learning number bonds, 1st and 3rd grade students are learning about the solar system and moon phases, and 2nd grade is beginning their study on the Oregon Trail. You, as parents and guardians, can help at home to extend the learning, by reading with your child every day.
We would like to wish our District Spelling Bee competitors good luck as they compete this weekend.
Many local boy scout troops are competing this weekend as well in the pinewood derby. We wish our boy scouts good luck.

Trespassing
This is just a friendly reminder that the dirt lot to the east of the K-3 campus is private property and there are no trespassing signs posted in multiple places on the property. That means if you are parked there for any reason, you can be cited with trespassing. When the school has social events or parent teacher conferences, they have to specifically call and reserve the lot every single time.
I have attached the trespassing law for your review: “A person commits the crime of third degree trespass if such person unlawfully enters or remains in or upon the premises of another.”
So unless you have specific written permission from the city of Loveland to park or be in that dirt lot, I would advise you not to park there so you can avoid being charged. No excuse is valid, especially not the excuse of skipping the driveline.
Thank you!

Pets at School
This is a reminder that pets of any kind are not allowed on either campus. Thank you.
Random Acts of Kindness
Did you know kindness affects our brain positively? Kindness increases oxytocin which lowers blood pressure, and increases self-esteem and optimism, according to studies at Dartmouth University. They also found that helping others makes a person feel stronger, more energetic, and calmer.
The week of Feb 17th is Kindness Week, with Random Acts of Kindness observed on Monday February 17th. We will be talking with students about this during the week. We would love for you as parents and guardians to also discuss this special week with your child at home. What are some ways they can be kind to their classmates this week? What could they do for their community to promote kindness? How can they show kindness to the school staff and school property? I'm sure they'll realize they're already doing a lot of those things already! If you want to take it a step further and use a kindness calendar for your family at home, here is a great resource for you: https://www.randomactsofkindness.org/printables
