8th Grade Project Presentations
Our first three 8th grade students gave fascinating presentations today about African hair braiding, graphic design, and manatee preservation. This culminating project is an important element of the 8th grade year and we're so proud of the work these students have invested in their apprenticeships, speeches, and presentations. Well done and good luck, 8th graders!

Oregon Battle of the Books - 5th grade team goes to Oregon State Championships!
From OBOB Organizer and Coach, Amy Bull:
I'm so, so thrilled to announce that the Explosions, Siskiyou School's very own 5th grade team, placed 2nd out of 20 Rogue Valley (Grants Pass and Klamath Falls too) teams. This placing sends us to the State Battle in Salem on Saturday, April 13th at Chemeketa Community College, where we will be representing Region 5, along with Helman Elementary. The State Battle will be a culmination of all the winning teams from the 7 regions in the state of Oregon. We are elated to represent the Siskiyou School, Region 5 and fans of reading everywhere.
Wyatt, Brahn, Orin, Finn and Lila all showed up in such an incredible capacity today. I knew they had all been working hard, but I truly had no expectations that we'd make it to state. We gathered as a team at 8 am today, with the first battle beginning at 9:30, and the kids completed 8 arduous battles, finally completing the competition in second place around 3pm today. There were four Pool Play battles, after which we were placed second entering into the Sweet 16, then moving through the bracket play we remained in second for the finish! The kids not only used their amazing ability to retain minute details from the books, but showed great team spirit, supported each other with words, shook hands with other teams, played chess with teams while waiting, congratulated friends, and so much more.
8th Grade Project Presentations
The Dragonfly Class is presenting their 8th grade projects to the Siskiyou School Community. They are asked to describe what topic they chose to study for their project, what they learned over their apprenticeship, and to respond to questions from the live audience. Please note the dates above and plan to join us in Pine Hall.
We’re happy to be able to share our 8th grade project presentations with our wider community over Zoom. A link to join us online was sent to all currently enrolled parents on Monday, March 11th. You are welcome to tune in and check out the work done by the Dragonfly Class this year, but please, for the safety of our students, do NOT post this link over social media.
8th Grade Project Presentations are also recorded and will be available to view through a YouTube link.

1st and 6th Main Lesson Teachers
The Siskiyou School is looking for a 6th grade class teacher and a 1st grade class teacher for the school year 2024-2025. The current 5th grade, called the Raven Class, has had a teacher for their first five years and they are ready to welcome a new class teacher for the middle school years. Our forming first grade will welcome the graduates of our first year of Kindergarten as well as some new friends.
The class teacher is the main holder of a class. They teach their students main lesson and some of the core skills. They oversee their students’ academic progress, guide their social and emotional development, organize field trips, and keep in communication with parents through regular conferences and class meetings. Class teachers are the point person for their students, parents, other teachers and the administration for all matters regarding their class.
We require at least 2 years of teaching experience in the grades. A Waldorf Teacher certificate is also preferable, but we are also open to training a teacher or sending the candidate to Waldorf summer training.
If interested, please send a resume and cover letter to our administrator Aurilia McNamara at Aurilia.mcnamara@siskiyouschool.org. If you have additional questions, please call 541-690-7171. We look forward to hearing from you.
Dragonfly Class - 8th Grade
Dear Siskiyou School Community,
The time has come! This week we enjoy the first round of 8th Grade Project Presentations in Pine Hall. The 8th Graders have been working very hard on these projects and we are ready to share them with all of you.
Some of these students began their journey at the school way back in 1st Grade. Others have been lovingly woven into the class tapestry along the way. For all of them, this is the culmination of many presentations and lessons through the years, and now they have arrived at a very unique moment in their educational voyage.
Special thanks go out to all of the parents, project mentors, and speech mentors who have been instrumental and vital in making these projects happen. We couldn’t have done it without you.
Now, let’s join together in celebration of this great group of young people, and our wonderful school. See you there!
Warmly, Mr. Beech
