Elkton Elementary School Memo

A Note from Mrs. Palmer
Dear EES Families,
Welcome to the Second Semester of the 2020-2021 school year. EES is excited to welcome more students back into the school building. We continue to follow the RCPS Health and Safety Plan that is at the bottom of this newsletter. The staff and students continue to do an excellent job following all the mitgation strategies implemented to keep everyone safe.
- As we start the second semester, I feel it would be a good idea for parents to reread the Student Handbook that was updated in November.
Your child's teacher continues to work hard to ensure that your child has authentic learning experiences. I visit classrooms often, and I can say first hand that your child is safe, happy, and engaged in what they are learning at school. Even though the school day schedule is different, students are learning. It is important that all students, especially our grades 2-5 students, complete any assignments given on their off days. This work is to review concepts and finish assignments started in school.
PALS assessments are almost completed, and your child's teacher will be reaching out to you to go over the academic progress your child has made. This information will be included in the online report card that will be issued in Mid- February.
I offer the following tips as we move into the second semester of school:
- Be flexible- What is being asked of you is huge. Parenting, working, and teaching are full time jobs, and many of you are now trying to do all three at once. We urge you to be flexible and understanding- with your kids, with their teachers, and with yourselves.
- Do your best to find normalcy in an uncertain time. If you can, create a schedule for your day. Schedule in school time or homework time, meal time, fun time, exericse.
- Build in time together as a family.
- Acknowledge the feelings that are happening- fear, restlessness, and anxiety are all real and it can help to identify and name the feeling to work through them.
The staff at EES promises you that we will continue to do what we can to support you, so that your child feels engaged, learns, and is safe.
I wish you well...
Mrs. Palmer

Starting Tuesday, December 1st, families can come to the library doors, (Door #2) and pick up requested books, on Tuesdays, from 3:30 until 5:30pm. Books can also be picked up Wednesdays, 8:30 am - 3:30 pm.
Book requests can be made through See-Saw or through the library catalog, Destiny, and placing a hold under the student's name.
