Hello Nixon Parents and Guardians,
While the school year is certainly not over, we are in the last quarter, just one month away from summer! All Nixon Cougars are busy critically thinking, as we are in full swing of ACAP testing, which affords scholars an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge of grade level skills. We began staggering our assessments April 9, 2024 for grades 2-3 and will begin April 15, 2024 for grades 4 and 5. We would prefer families avoid scheduling daytime appointments, family vacation days, and other things that could impact scholar attendance during our testing window. Please view the following ACAP Summative Parental Information video if you are interested in learning more about ACAP testing as it relates to your child.
Please take notice of your child's testing week and continue doing your best to ensure your child gets a good night's rest and has a positive start to the morning! Additionally, the ACAP assessment will help us in making final decisions about scholars who will be invited to participate in Nixon's Summer Learning Program.
We began sending out Summer Learning Program invitations yesterday. The purpose of the summer learning program is to extend the time many of our scholars need in order to master skills being worked on in their current grade. The instruction will help to maintain and sharpen many skills and concepts presented throughout the school year. The Summer Learning Program will run from June 3rd-27th, Monday through Thursday 7:30 until 3:00.
Together, we can make a difference!
Principal Frazier
Ensuring scholars achieve their highest potential by providing high-quality instruction in a safe and nurturing environment remains our primary focus!!
A huge thank you to our very own NIXON band under the leadership of Ms. Jones and Ms. Allen!! You all are doing a great job being scholar leaders on campus!!
Thank you Dr. Walker with Technology in Motion for supporting digital literacy and computer science course of study incorporation into K-5 classrooms.
April Character Trait!!!!
This month, we have been busy learning about self-control. Self-control is the ability to regulate one's emotions, thoughts, and behavior in the face of temptations and impulses.
The components of self-control are:
1. Balance
2. Calmness
3. Determination
4. Confidence
5. Will power
Teaching self-control is one of the most important skills a parent or guardian can do for a child because self-control is a contributing factor to success in life, now and later. By learning self-control, a child can make appropriate decisions and respond to stressful situations in ways that can yield positive outcomes. When a child enters school, he or she is better able to understand the idea of consequences for his or her actions and the child can choose desirable or undesirable behavior choices.
Asynchronous Learning Day!
Nixon will be engaging in an asynchronous learning day, Friday, April 19th. This means scholars will be assessing learning material at their own pace, as scholars will not report to school. Teachers will upload all assignments in the Clever scholar portal. I hope everyone has a safe learning day.

Please remain in your vehicle and wait until your child's name has been called. Lastly, please do not enter the building during dismissal to retrieve kindergarten scholars. Please be patient and allow our staff members to dismiss the child to you in order to ensure the safety of all children and staff.
