Riverside Elementary School
April 2021
News from Mrs. Thode
Spring is in the air! April is here and we are now in the final quarter of school. We have a lot to get through in the fourth quarter.
Masks:
Students and staff are still required to wear face masks at school. We have run out of disposable youth-size masks. Please send a mask with your child each day, as we do not have enough masks for all students each day. Thank you for your help with this.
2021-2022 Kindergarten Registration:
Friday, April 16 is Kindergarten Registration for children that will be 5-years old by September 15, 2021. If you have a child or know of a child that will be coming to kindergarten in the fall, please call the office. Our registrar, Kim Ritchison, will set up a time for you to come on April 16. There will be no school for current kindergarten students on this day.
ISASP Information:
Students at Riverside in third, fourth, and fifth grades will be taking the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress(ISASP) from April 26-May 15. These students will be tested in the areas of reading, writing, and math. Fifth grade will also test in the area of science. Students will be working on practice tests before the testing window. Tests will be administered each day starting Monday, April 26 through Friday, April 30. May 3-15 will be used for make-up tests. During the testing window, it is important that students get a good night's sleep and eat breakfast.
Thank you!
Mrs. Thode

Paying School Fees is Quick and Easy Online
Do you have school fees that need to be paid? Visit www.siouxcityschools.org and click on the “Parents” tab to pay your fees online. On the drop-down menu of the “Parents” tab, you can select “Pay Curriculum and Meal Fees.” Both links will take you to “My School Bucks” to complete the payment transaction. Payment for curriculum resource fees can be made under the “School Store” by selecting “Categories” and then “Curriculum Fees.” If you have any questions, please contact our school’s bookkeeper. Thank you.
Immunization & Screening Requirements
Before next fall, make sure your child’s immunizations, dental screenings, and vision screenings are up-to-date. According to law, there are requirements for children entering kindergarten, third grade, seventh grade, ninth grade, and twelfth grade. Visit our website to learn more.
Let's Talk
An engaged community makes our District stronger. That is why we have made it easy for you to connect with us whenever it is convenient for you. We encourage you to take advantage of Let’s Talk!, our 24/7 online submission site. Reach out with your ideas, questions, concerns, and praise. Communication and Preparedness
Student and staff safety is of paramount importance in the Sioux City Community School District. For this reason, the District exercises a host of crisis prevention and planning tactics. Should an emergency occur, the school notifies you through our Blackboard phone system. In an emergency, the system calls every phone number associated with your child in order to reach you. The message will give you details about the emergency and provide directions on when/where to pick up your child if the normal school day is altered. Learn more about school safety.
