Message From Your Principal
As you know, our mission statement here at Challenger is for students to Strive for their Highest Potential. When students are striving for their highest potential here at Challenger, our vision will be achieved. That vision is: At Challenger Elementary, students will be prepared both socially and academically for the future. They will be inspired to continually learn and contribute positively to their community.
This month is very important in helping our students achieve that vision. During the month of November, we have Parent Teacher Conferences (Nov 23 - 25 ). This event is crucial in normal years, but even more critical during our current distance learning. During this time, we can share what is going well and what areas we can work together on to help your student learn. This meeting with help build the connection between home and school. When the bonds are strong, we can ensure that all of our students are supported.
In order to build those bonds at Challenger, our staff wants to connect with our families and community. Our staff’s plan of communication includes Schoology updates, information in monthly newsletters, Blackboard Connect messages and coming soon, a YouTube channel . When this information is shared with the school and community, we can all work together to help our students Strive for their Highest Potential!

Message From Your Dean of Students
Setting Students Up for Success
We have been engaged in distance learning for about three months now, and while there have been challenges, the achievements that we have seen from many of our students are astounding. As we continue to learn virtually, it is important to focus on how to make this time positive for our students.
Below are some tips to keep our kids interested and balanced during distance learning:
Make a learning space. This can be anywhere in your home. This space can be personalized just for them (they can add a nametag or keep their favorite toy there), and it should have all of the materials that they need to learn (paper, pencils, whiteboard, etc.).
Set up a routine. Following a routine as if they are going to the school building will help them focus on their learning. Work with your child to create a schedule (either visual or a calendar) that will help them stay on track.
Check in with your child’s teacher. Your child’s teacher wants to help support you and your family as we navigate distance learning together. Reach out and see how your child is doing, but also reach out if you notice that your child is having difficulty with their learning. We are all here to support one another.
Get physical! Our brains need breaks to help us better retain information. Make sure to go for a walk, do some jumping jacks, or run in place – anything helps!
Take care of yourself. We have all heard the airplane metaphor: you must first put on your oxygen mask before you can help someone else. Make sure that you get some “me” time each day.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to anyone at Challenger Elementary with questions or concerns.
