Friday Newsletter: April 19, 2024
Hello Santanas and happy Friday!
Spirit Week: Our Spirit Week is next week (4/22-4/26). To celebrate, we will have a dress up theme each day of the week. Students will be permitted to wear a shirt that corresponds with the theme and then their uniform bottoms. Here are the daily themes:
Monday: "California Dreaming"-pajama top and bottoms with tennis shoes (no slippers, slip ons or crocs)
Tuesday: "Surfing in the USA"- Wear a red, white or blue shirt with uniform bottoms
Wednesday: Spongebob vs. Patrick- 7th graders wear a yellow shirt and 8th graders wear a pink shirt with uniform bottoms
Thursday: Hawaiian shirt with uniform bottoms
Friday: RAD shirt and jeans (if no RAD shirt, students should be in uniform shirt and bottoms)
**If your child does not want to participate in the spirit wear dress up days, please send them to school in their uniform top and bottom.
El Modena High School Girls Soccer: The EMHS Girls Soccer team is hosting a FREE foundational night on Wednesday, April 24th, from 6-8p for 7th and 8th graders. To view the flier and sign up to participate, scroll below.
Heads Up, Check Up: Our counseling team will be providing a FREE mental health screener to all students during their history class next Wednesday (4/24) and Thursday (4/25). All students will be participating unless a parent opts their child out. A virtual parent night will be held this Monday (4/22) at 6:30p, to answer any questions. PTSA April Meeting: Join us on Thursday (4/25) for our PTSA's April meeting in the library at 7p. The meeting will be translated into Spanish as well.

El Modena Girls Soccer: Foundational Night
Our FREE foundational night is coming up on Wednesday, April 24, 2024. All 7th and 8th graders are invited to sign up to be a part of the foundational night community event. Topics covered will be passing, finishing, dribbling, and goalkeeping. Sign up link: Soccer Sign Up Link

Career Day Speakers (5/31/24)
We are looking for Career Day speakers who work in the following Industries:
- Auto Industry
- Beauty Industry (ex. Hair Stylist, Barber, Make-Up Artist)
- Computer Science/ Engineering/ Technology
- Construction Trades
- Culinary Arts/ Event Planners
- Digital Arts (graphic design, photography, marketing)
- Emergency Response
- Hospitality, Recreation, and Tourism (Event Planners, Hotel Managers, Tour Directors, Park Rangers)
- Law/Law Enforcement
- Patient Care/ Sports Medicine/ Medical
- Public Relations/ Entertainment Industry
- Visual/ Performing Arts
- Other fields of interest to students
Speakers should expect to be available from 8:45am-11:00am. Each speaker will be expected to give 5, 15-minute presentations, to a group of 30 students.

Santiago Spotlight
Our Santiago Spotlight for this week is Robyn L. Robyn has been running cross-country (XC) and track & field with the Quick Track Club since 2019. In December of 2023, she qualified for XC nationals in Louisville, KY, and earned All-American in her age division. She also runs XC for our Santiago teams and placed 1st in both meets during the fall term! Thanks for sharing your talent with us Robyn!

Santana of the Month
Our Staff of the Month Program is designed to recognize outstanding staff members for their contributions to Santiago Charter Middle School. Each month, a different staff member will be recognized. Nominations may be submitted by parents. The nomination symbolizes the esteem and appreciation that everyone has for our staff members. Nominations are due by the 15th of each month.
Santiago Helping Hands
Looking for ways to help out at Santiago? There are many opportunities to help with your time, talents or gifts. This is going to be the place we share all the wish lists from the different groups on campus. We appreciate every family's help in supporting the Santiago Community.
- 👩🏫 Teacher Wish Lists - Some of our teachers have created wish lists for specific student classroom needs. Check it out!
- ⚽ 🏐 🏈 Used Sports Equipment: Any type of equipment you don't need anymore! We have a large athletic group, we can use whatever you can spare.
- 👕 PE Loaner Laundry - The PE teachers need help laundering the loaner uniforms that are used each week. Sign up HERE to choose a Friday to pick up a load of PE clothes, wash them over the weekend, and then return them Monday morning. We appreciate you adding a load to your wash day!
- Sanitizing Wipes - all the teachers would appreciate this!
