Note from the Principal:
Happy Friday!
Last night was the first round of the NFL draft. It is important to get a great first round pick, but even if you don't know a lot about football, it is pretty obvious that it takes more than a first round draft pick to be successful.
A team has to develop talent and get the most out of the late draft picks and even drafted players. Tom Brady and Antonio Brown were both picked in the 6th round (199th and 195th). The best teams are the ones that find their players' strengths, no matter where they were drafted and find ways to capitalize on them.
Now back to Bear Tavern... Everyone has a 'first round draft pick' in their class or on their caseload, a child from an incredible family that continues to amaze us with his/her cooperation, teamwork and ability. But what makes us great as a school and as individuals is our ability to take the '6th round pick,' or even more challenging, 'the undrafted free agent,' and make him/her successful.
Everyone around us is dealing with something. Even in a community as fortunate as Titusville, we have students who are dealing with a lot of setbacks, struggles and roadblocks in their lives. Even our colleagues and friends may be dealing with things that we don't even know about.
We can never give up on finding what makes all of our kids, especially the most challenging ones, tick. We have to be compassionate about their struggles and be the person/people that believe(s) in them and help them find those really important small improvements.
Take a moment today to think about your 'projects.' What can we do to put them in the best position to succeed? What deficits can we overlook at times to see the strengths? What scaffolds can we put up to help them find success?
After all; it takes more than the first round picks to be successful. We want to win with our whole team! It is doable if we put the best things about every one of our students on display and let each of them know that we believe in them and that they can be the next Antonio Brown (even if you don't know who he is)!
Keep working hard and keep in mind that everyone has a struggle that we may not see, but we can be THE difference maker that makes an impact that lasts forever!
Have a great weekend.
Sincerely,
Chris
