Prestons Post
Term 1, Week 9
Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to the Week 9 newsletter.
Easter Hat Parade:
Our recent Easter Hat Parade was a colourful and joyful event today, filled with creativity and excitement. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the students who participated and showcased their wonderful creations. It was amazing to see contributions from across the school and community.
Easter Raffle Fundraiser:
I'm delighted to announce the success of our Easter Raffle fundraiser, thanks to the relentless efforts of our amazing P&C. Your generous contributions and support enable us to enhance the educational experiences of our students. Every dollar raised goes directly back to our school, enriching the learning journey of each child.
Contacting Teachers:
Ensuring effective communication between home and school is paramount. If you need to contact your child's teacher, please reach out to the school office, and they will facilitate communication. We value open dialogue and collaboration to nurture your child's growth and development. It is difficult for teachers to discuss your child’s needs at 9am as they are preparing to teach the class, please make an alternate time with the teacher to contact or meet with you.
Anti-Bullying Policy:
At our recent P&C meeting, we shared our school's Anti-Bullying Policy with parents. This policy underscores our commitment to providing a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students. I extend my sincere appreciation to our parents for their invaluable feedback and contributions towards creating a positive school culture.
Professional Development for Teachers:
Our teachers are dedicated to continuous growth and learning to better serve our students. Over the next few weeks we have a high number of teachers engaging in professional learning sessions focusing on various areas such as Walker Learning, Berry Street Education Model, Spirals, Trauma-Informed Practices, and EAL/D. They bring back invaluable knowledge and strategies to support our students effectively. While the classroom teachers are off class, I want to emphasize that we hold the same high expectations for all our students across all classes. With our teachers' commitment and support, we believe every child can achieve their full potential.
Congratulations to our Rugby League Representatives:
I am thrilled to extend my congratulations to Shalom for securing a spot in the Liverpool Zone Rugby League Under 11s team, and to Eli, Malachi, and Faifua for their selection in the Liverpool Zone Rugby League Opens team. Their dedication, talent, and hard work have earned them this remarkable achievement. Representing our school at the Sydney South West Rugby League tournament is a tremendous honour, and we are immensely proud of them. We wish them all the luck and success as they embark on this exciting journey. Go, Team!
Upcoming Holidays:
As a reminder, there will be no school this Friday, April 5th, due to the public holiday Good Friday, and on Monday, April 8th, for Easter Monday. Consequently, there will be no Monday morning assembly for Week 10.
Have a wonderful week and don’t forget to ask your child what they are learning.

Paper Planes and Pizza - The Fathering Project - Thursday 11th April, 2024
Prestons Public School has partnered with The Fathering Project this year which is an exciting opportunity for fathers, uncles and grandfathers to be involved in student’s education and wellbeing.
Year 6 Students going into Year 7, 2025 Online applications closing 31st March.
To enrol your child in Year 7 for 2025, you will need to complete an Expression of Interest for Year 6 to Year 7 transition. The Expression of Interest (EOI) lets you indicate which school(s) you would like your child to attend in Year 7.
The EOI process will be available online from 6th March – 31 March 2024 and accessed through the Prestons Public School website. After you submit an EOI and it has been assessed, your child will be offered a place at a high school.
If your child will not be attending a NSW Government high school next year, please let us know by completing a Placement Not Required form.
If you are unsure whether they will be attending a NSW Government school (you’ve applied for a private school, or you are moving interstate), we ask that you still complete an EOI and follow up with your school once a decision has been made.
The online process will guide you through your options and collect the information required to make the process as smooth as possible.
For parents or carers who are not able to complete an application online, a paper EOI form can be collected from the school office.
For more information about moving to high school, visit:

Please contact the office if you have any questions or need assistance with this process.
Classroom Chat with 1 Determined
It is crazy to say that we are already halfway through the term and what a fun term it has been! In 1 Brave we have been working hard in all KLA areas, while adjusting to routines and making memories along the way. As we continue to navigate through the academic year, I wanted to take a moment to share some exciting updates on our class journey so far.
English:
In English, we have all been practicing and learning new phonics skills to support our reading. We have looked at diagraphs like ‘sh’ and ‘ch’, are practicing how to read fluently, and have recently been focusing on syllables and phonemes to help us blend sounds more effectively. During writing we have loved the unit that has allowed us to use our understanding of context to write a personal story. The students have successfully represented these personal stories through artworks and oral storytelling.
Maths:
In Maths, it has been all about continuing and creating number patterns! In our recent lessons on number patterns, students have engaged in a dynamic and interactive exploration of mathematical sequences and structures. The primary focus has been on recognizing, analysing, and extending various types of number patterns, contributing to a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts. In our other KLA’s, the students have been learning about all different things such as being inclusive and positive peers in PDHPE, to becoming our favourite toys in Drama! Thank you for entrusting us with your child's education. Here's to a semester filled with growth, learning, and memorable moments
