Friday Family Message
Hello Families
Today, we are launching a brief survey to gather as many voices, opinions, and thoughts from throughout the community that will help us plan for and prioritize for the years ahead.
This annual survey was launched last year, and more than 1,300 responses helped us adjust our practices in several ways. Some of our adjustments, based on survey responses, include:
How we communicate with students, families, and the community
Where best to prioritize our investments in programs, services, and facilities
More closely aligning our strategic planning to the community’s needs
In addition to sparing a few moments to take the survey, please share the link widely throughout the community. The more responses, the better!
The survey should take about 10 minutes, and all results will be anonymous.
Help us fight fentanyl
A reminder to please join us for an important community safety forum — Fentanyl Awareness Night.
This event will feature speakers who will touch on different aspects of how this potent new drug can impact students, families, and the community.
The free community event is at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, at Stanwood High School.
Learn more about Fentanyl Awareness Night on our website.
Transitional Kindergarten applications now open
Transitional Kindergarten (TK) has been available in Stanwood-Camano School district since the 2022-23 school year and is aimed at helping children who haven’t accessed preschool to prepare for kindergarten.
TK applications are now being accepted for 2024-25 school year.
There are classrooms available at Cedarhome Elementary, Twin City Elementary, and Utsalady Elementary — but all Stanwood-Camano students eligible, regardless of location of residence.
TK is a free, full-day early entrance kindergarten program for children who will be 4 years old as of September 1 at the beginning of that school year.
Visit our Transitional Kindergarten webpage to learn more and to apply.
We're also accepting students for our preschool programs
The school district is now accepting students for our inclusive preschool programs at Stanwood Elementary or Utsalady Elementary for next school year.
To be considered, students must be 4 years old by the start of the 2024-25 school year. Contact Janette Marx at jmarx@stanwood.wednet.edu or 360-629-1250 for further information.
In addition, visit www.StanCamPreschools.com — created by the Community Resource Center of Stanwood-Camano — to find information about all the childcare and preschool programs within the Stanwood-Camano School District.
We're getting excited!
The Stanwood High spring musical — Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Cinderella" — opens next week!
The play will be presented at 7 p.m. on March 8, 9, 15, and 16. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students — can be purchased at the box office or online via GoFan. Don't miss this play for the whole family.
This is your opportunity to witness our vibrant student talent as they bring “Cinderella” to life with flair and finesse.
Congratulations to our Employee of the Month
Monica McDaniel, the lead teacher at Saratoga School, earned the Certificated Employee of the Month award for February. She was nominated by a parent who wrote that Mrs. McDaniel has been instrumental in the transition to a specialized education structure for their student.
“She has made us feel included in the Saratoga program with a flexible understanding to the challenges our circumstance. She has made it a priority to find ways of helping our child flourish in the unfamiliar classroom setting,” the parent wrote.
Congrats!
