Governing Board Candidate Forum
Some DVUSD PTA/PTO organizations are sponsoring a forum to hear from the candidates in the upcoming Governing Board election. The forum takes place on October 4, 2022, at 6 p.m. in the DVUSD Governing Board room at 20402 N. 15th Avenue in Phoenix, 85027. You can view the forum live or later at livestream.com/dvusd. A candidate meet-and-greet will take place prior to the forum from 5:30 – 6:00 p.m. in the Governing Board room.
The sponsoring PTA/PTO organizations will select the questions from those submitted by parents, students, staff, and community members. Questions will be accepted now through September 25, 2022 at this link: https://dvusd.wufoo.com/forms/governing-board-candidate-forum-questions-2022/
From Nurse Jan
Emergency Phone Number:
Parents, please add the nurse’s office phone number (623-376-5010) to your contact list. When your child is ill or there is an emergency I need to be able to reach you; it is so important that I have someone answer my phone call.
Also, please make sure your voice mailbox is regularly cleared out. So many times I call parents and/or the emergency contacts, and the voice mailbox is full and I am not able to leave a message.
DONATIONS:
I am in need of the following clothing items:
· Tee shirts that meet the dress code for 6th. 7th. 8th. Grade girls and boys.
· Underwear, new in package, for boys: Med. And Large.
· Shorts, for boys and girls, easy pull-on with drawstring waistband. Sizes for kindergarten. 1st. 2nd. 3rd.
IMMUNIZATIONS: If your child is turning 11yr.’s in Sept. Oct. or Nov. it is not too early to make their 11yr. old wellness check appointment. This appointment needs to be made on or after they turn 11 yr. not before so that they can receive their required vaccines: Tdap and Meningitis.
Once this appointment is made, if you would be so kind, as to call the nurse's office to give me the date of this appointment it would prevent you from receiving numerous phone calls, emails, and reminder letters from me.
Thank You so much for your help in helping me to give your child the best care possible while they are at school!
~Nurse Jan
Donations Needed
We are reaching out to ask for donations. We have had a golf cart for many years, but the ones that we have are very old and are past the point of repair. We use the golf cart every day for student safety, athletics, maintenance, and to get to our crosswalks. Not having one this year is having a big impact on our staff.
Golf Cart - We are specifically looking for an electric golf cart that ideally seats four.
Microwaves - Thank you to the Bacon family for their generous donation of three microwaves!
Please contact our office or PTSA if you are able to help us out!
Thank you for your consideration!
Hello Families,
The motto this week in school is:
I am willing to introduce myself & get to know new people.
Students may have a desire to speak to new students but simply aren’t sure how to approach them and start a conversation.
You can help your child feel more confident by teaching them this formula:
1. Say hello. Say your name. Ask their name. “Hi, I’m Mason. What’s your name?”
2. Ask a question using their name. “Hi, Trey. What’s your favorite sport?”
3. Respond. Answer the question and ask another. “Basketball’s cool. I like football too. Do you have a favorite team?”
4. Expect awkward silences. They’re normal & you can minimize them by asking more questions.
5. When you’re ready to leave, say, “It was nice talking to you. See you later.”
The habit builder for this week is to teach your child this formula at home. It’s fun to have these practice conversations with your kids, and it helps them build their confidence as well.
As parents, it’s easy to over-worry about our kids and wonder whether they have enough friends. Most of the time, our worry is misplaced. If your child cannot proclaim who their friends are, don’t be alarmed.
Students often seek out which activity they want to participate in at lunch more than they seek out a person. This is a normal, healthy way to spend their recess, and it is through these activities that they will forge their friendships over time.
