CHRIST IS RISEN! EASTER 2024! 🐣

Introducing Pilgrim's Prayer Group--9:30am Sundays! And Happy Graduation!
+ THE GREAT FIFTY DAY CELEBRATION! +
The gospel for Easter’s seventh Sunday is always taken from the long prayer Jesus prays for his followers in John’s gospel on the night before his death, and always includes Jesus’ desire that his followers will be one as he and the Father are one. This oneness is not mere doctrinal agreement or institutional unity, but mutual abiding, interpenetrating life, mutual love, and joy. This oneness is the work of the Spirit whom we have received but also await. Come, Holy Spirit!

From Sunday's Gospel--John 15:15-17
15 "I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father. 16 You did not choose me but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name. 17 I am giving you these commands so that you may love one another.”

Lutheran World Federation (LWF) Update
President Bishop Henrik Stubkjær, visited the two largest Lutheran church bodies: the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) and The Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (EECMY). Stubkjær visited Arusha and Moshi in northern Tanzania from 16 to 18 April, before travelling to the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, from 19 to 21 April. Between them, the churches in the two East African nations number almost 20 million people, making them the largest members of the LWF. To put into context the ELCA is the largest Lutheran church in the western hemisphere (the Americas) has 3.3 million members.
The Lutheran World Federation is the global communion of churches and oversees 75.5 million Lutherans in the world. The ELCA is the only Lutheran denomination in the USA part of the LWF. Total Lutherans inside and out of the LWF is close to 80 million. There are currently 12 Lutheran denominations in the USA including the ELCA, Missouri Synod, and Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. In other words, the 5 million Lutherans who are not part of the LWF make up dozens of Lutheran denominations.
Commemorations
Matthias, Apostle Tuesday, May 14, 2024
Matthias was the apostle added to the Twelve after Jesus' resurrection, as a replacement for the dead Judas Iscariot. He had traveled among the followers of Jesus throughout the Lord's ministry. Formerly commemorated on February 24, Matthias's celebration is moved to May 14 in agreement with most Western calendars.
Erik, King of Sweden, martyr, died 1160 Saturday, May 18, 2024
Erik is considered the patron saint of Sweden. As king of that nation, he tried to bring peace in the region, and to spread Christianity in Scandinavia. He was also known for his attempts to make fair laws and to protect those who were poor or sick.
