20Learn, powered by Schoology
Where Learning Happens │February 3, 2020
World Book, Discovery Education, and Schoology
One of the benefits we have with Schoology is the ability to integrate our favorite tools with the platform. Two of these tools are World Book Online and Discovery Education. Integrating these tools with Schoology means that students are automatically logged in to the platforms and stay within your course to do their work. No worrying about access codes, logins, and passwords - everyone benefits from our single sign-on! Students can save their research and timelines in World Book Online. Teachers can create and curate content for their students within Discovery Education. All this can happen without leaving the 20Learn/Schoology course! Take a look at both of these great resources!
Pro Tip: Did you know that Discovery Education has a library of professional learning materials to support your growth? Check it out!
Look for Discovery Education and Worldbook in the left-hand navigation of your courses.
Respondus Lockdown Browser and StudyMate
The Respondus Lockdown Browser is a customized browser integrated with Schoology to increase assessment security. Students are unable to message, search in another browser, copy, or print assessment items. Teachers can even choose to allow students to visit a specific site as part of the assessment and students won’t be allowed to click out of that site. There are a number of possibilities to help you feel more secure with your assessments through Schoology.
Want to learn more? Respondus, the company behind the Lockdown Browser, is providing a webinar February 13 on the browser. Click here to register (this is not an ASD20 Professional Learning sponsored course). Unable to attend because of class? No problem. Go ahead and register. Respondus will provide a screencast of the webinar for you to view later.
Note: If you are using the Lockdown Browser with students using iPads, make sure that you click the checkbox allowing use on iPads in the additional settings. If students receive an error when opening the assessment, have them go to their iPad Settings > Safari > Request Desktop Site > All Websites - and toggle the All Websites off.
Not Using Schoology in One or More Courses? - The Benefit of a Course Presence
Perhaps you aren’t using Schoology for one or more of your courses. In that case, it might help to create a Course Presence.
A Course Presence is an information page to those who visit the course. It contains contact information, links to other resources being used (Seesaw, AP College Board), and a note indicating that you won’t be actively using Schoology this semester.
What is the benefit of this? All students AND parents are automatically enrolled in your course. They have easy access to your course, even if you aren’t using it. Your Schoology page can serve as a landing page for information and communication, especially as individual teacher websites sunset with the new school webpages.
