Please continue to help your students return their library books in a timely manner and consider reading books together as a family to help nurture their love of reading at home. Thank you!

News From Art Class
Hi Families!
Happy March!
We always love donations of egg cartons! When students work with tempera or acrylic paint, egg cartons are used as paint palettes. We throw them out after use, so we go through quite a lot of them.
This month, students are working on painting and printmaking. Our students did great work in January and February. Almost everyone completed a self-portrait for the Square1 Art fundraiser. Look for Square1 Art packets (which will include the complimentary stickers and order information) to go home right after spring break.
Students can look forward to lots of exciting projects this spring. Third, fourth and fifth graders will enjoy a special workshop with Basement Films of Albuquerque in March. Fourth and fifth graders will get to work with a puppeteer in May. All students in grades K-5 will be engaging in a few printmaking projects.
As always, please reach out with questions or concerns or ideas. We welcome your input about current and future art projects!
Be well,
Thea Storz

Save the Children
Hello families and happy March!
The Save the Children students have been working so hard and I am super proud of all of them!
Our Emergent Readers group (1st grade) have been learning new sight words and practicing their fluency as we read our weekly poems together. Later this month we will engaging in fiction and nonfiction read-alouds as the students work to expand their vocabulary.
Our Developing Readers groups (2-5th grade) have been working on their GIRP (guided independent reading practice) and taking an AR (accelerated reading) quiz after to test their reading comprehension. Every time a student gets a 100% AR test, they get to put a sticker in their class jar. We recently had 3rd and 5th grade complete this and they got to have a classroom reward.
Spring break is fast approaching, and I encourage all parents and guardians to spend some time reading with their students or just be there to listen and help if needed. Research shows that children benefit from reading for 20 minutes or more each night before bed.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Spring break! Stay safe, take care, and keep on reading!
-Mary Reuland (STC Program Coordinator)
