Advent
Advent is a time of new beginnings. It is a time of quiet, joyful preparation for the celebration of Jesus’s birth and also a time to remember that we wait for Christ to come again at the end of time. The faculty, staff, and students will be busy making ourselves ready for the celebration of Christ’s birth by receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation, celebrating Saint Nicholas Day, supporting the Helping Hands ministry, working together with our buddies, and preparing joyful music through our choirs and bands. As we approach Christmas, let us take advantage of the moments when Jesus calls us in simple ways. Together, let us give thanks for His presence among us and be the bearers of His light to the world as we go forward in faith, hope, and love.
A Merry Mary Christmas
The Hour of Code
While most of us know how to use computer software, computer science teaches people how to create it. We believe that educating our students about computer science will not only lead them to a better understanding of science and math but also to the computing job that hasn’t yet been created! Therefore, Saint Paschal Baylon School once again is joining the global movement called the Hour of Code during the week December 3-7 and throughout the month of December. The Hour of Code is the largest learning campaign in history. In one hour, students (and teachers) can learn that computer science is fun, easy, and accessible at all ages. With coding programs such as Kodu, Scratch, and Scratch Junior, our students discover how to program and develop interactive stories, animations, and games. Using the Osmos and the Bee Bots in our primary grades brings coding to our curriculum earlier than ever. To learn more about what our students are doing, check Mrs. McMurdo’s web page and ask your child how he or she became part of the Hour of Code. The students started this week and will continue next week with Hour of Code lessons in Computer class.

To be eligible, the nominee should have graduated from Saint Paschal Baylon Catholic School at least ten years ago. Playground/Lunchroom Supervision-Grades 3, 4, 5
The links to sign up for playground/lunchroom supervision for parents/guardians of students in grades 3, 4, and 5 are now live!
We are asking that each family (mom, dad, grandma, etc.) choose at least two days to volunteer for the month of December for 5th grade (only two slots open!), January for 4th grade, or February for 3rd grade, each time slot being 11:00-1:00. If you have a child in another grade level, but would find the time to help, please feel free to fill one of the open slots. We are always grateful for the help!
This is a great way for you to interact with your child and his/her classmates during the school day! Lunch/Recess Volunteers should arrive to school at 11:00 and check in at the office. Duties will include supervising students at recess, escorting students to the cafeteria from recess, and supervising in the cafeteria. Volunteers will be with one teacher and two "core" volunteers each day to help direct. Remember that after your two volunteer time slots, you are done for the year, as each month is assigned to a different grade.
Thank you again for your time and service to the students and teachers of SPB! Simply click on the grade level link to pick a time convenient for you: Grade 5 , Grade 4 , or Grade 3.
