Principal's Message
Happy Friday!
This has been an exciting week to be a Pattengill Penguin and a Metro Detroiter!
Field Trips
Our 1st and 3rd grade students attended field trips in Detroit this week. On Wednesday, 3rd grade students, teachers, and Mrs. Kimmerly attended a performance at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. On Thursday, 1st grade visited the Wayne State Planetarium.
Leader in Me Service Day
Last week during our Leader in Me Habit Huddles, groups discussed Earth Day. Students used Habit 6: Synergize to discuss how we could help the Earth. During our Leader in Me block yesterday, all classes came outside to work on different service projects. It was great to see our students working together and using what they learned about Earth Day to make a difference in our building.
Lunch/Recess
One of our school goals this year is improving behavior in the lunchroom. Our students created 3 goals to meet. When the goals are met, students earn rewards. Last week our first lunch students earned an extra 25 minutes of recess and today our second lunch students received 25 minutes of extra recess. As a leadership school, we teach our students to set goals, track their progress, and celebrate their successes. Ask your student about their extra recess.
Dads Club Dance
Next Friday is our Dad's Club Color Dance. The Dad's Club works hard each year to make this event memorable for our students. The Color Dance is free for all Pattengill students.
Happy Administrative Professionals Day
This week was Administrative Professionals Day. I am thankful to work alongside Channel Hodges and Melissa Harbeck each day. Learn more about them below.
Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the wonderful craziness of the NFL Draft,
Shamika

Meet Our Pattengill Staff!
Hi Pattengill families. I am Channel Hodges and I am the mommy of 3 boys, 1 who attends Pattengill. I started at Pattengill as a paraprofessional last year in the ASD and CI classrooms. This is my first year as the Instructional Secretary. I love seeing the smiling faces of our students each day and they are a joy to be around.
I am Melissa Harbeck and I have spent my entire 14 years in the District working at Pattengill. My favorite things about my job are the kids and the magic ice bags :)

M-STEP Testing
M-STEP Testing
3rd through 5th grade students will begin M-STEP testing in the coming weeks. 3rd and 4th grade students are assessed in ELA and Math while 5th grade will be assessed in ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Schools and districts use test results, among others, for school improvement initiatives that benefit students. The data gathered from this year's state assessments and other data will help our staff support students when they return to school next school year and move forward with their education.
Before the Test Tips
*Develop a positive attitude. Tell yourself, "I will do my best on this test."
*Get a good night's sleep the night before the test.
*Get up early enough to avoid hurrying to get ready for school.
*Eat a healthy breakfast.
During the Test Tips
*Relax and Stay calm.
*Listen carefully to the directions the teacher gives.
*Ask questions if you don't understand what to do.
*Read each question carefully. Find the key words. Try to figure out what the question is really asking.
