Let us help you prepare for the year ahead!
#10: Get to know the Apply Texas Counselor Suite.
- Make sure you have access to ApplyTexas Counselor Suite. If you don't have access, click HERE.
- On the ApplyTexas site, you can benefit from the following valuable reports:
-- Admission application student list. Shows a list of the students at your high school who have started an ApplyTexas admission application.
-- Admission application detail report. Shows a list of applications started and submitted for an individual student.
-- Full download report. Shows the student application list as well as the information found on the application details screen.
-- FAFSA application student list. Shows a list of the students at your high school who have started or completed a FAFSA application.
#9: Keep track of where your students are going to college.
- College enrollment data for your high school is available from theTexas Higher Education Coordinating Board and can be found by clicking HERE.
- ApplyTexas counts allow you to see your school's rates of completion for ApplyTexas so that you can make plans to increase your completion rates in the future.
#8: Know your local higher education and business/industry partners.
- The metroplex is an incredible place to live, learn, and work.
- The North Texas Regional P-16 Council is a great place to find out about organizations, institutions, and other partners who are invested in the success of your students, campus, and district.
#7. Consider becoming a TSI testing site.
- Give the TSIA (Texas Success Initiative Assessment) at your school, on your schedule, and at a lesser cost!
- Visit the Texas Higher Educating Coordinating Board's website for more information.
#6: Consider giving the ASVAB on your campus.
- Texas Senate Bill 1843 requires each school district to provide students in grades 10 through 12 an opportunity to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test and consult with a military recruiter. School districts must:
-- Schedule the test during normal school hours, and
-- Schedule the test at a time that limits conflict with extracurricular activities.
Contact your military recruiter or visit the ASVAB site to schedule this test.
#5: Get familiar with the Texas GEAR UP scholarship website.
- Check out this amazing resource from Texas GEAR UP and plan on sharing it with your students and their families.
- It includes scholarship information for almost every university in Texas!
#3: Get familiar with Texas OnCourse resources.
- Texas OnCourse has great resources for counselors, career exploration teachers, students, and families as they collectively advise students through the college selection, admissions, and financial aid processes.
- They also have Texas OnCourse Academy with awesome learning modules for new counselors!
#2: Get to know Texas' new A-F accountability system.
