A note from Matt
Dear High School Staff,
Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year. I hope you are having a relaxing summer with time to enjoy your families and friends.
Please take a few moments to read through the information below and contact me if you have any questions, comments or concerns.
Staffing changes: I am pleased to welcome these additions to our staff:
- Marilyn VanGraafeiland, Science Teacher
- Deb Lush, Guidance Office Secretary
I will share the new Physical Education teacher, Science teacher, Psychologist and Nurse additions as the information becomes available.
There have been some operational/structural changes in the guidance and main offices. Our goal is to better serve our entire student population and run our offices more efficiently. Outlined below are the changes that will be in place for the 2018-2019 school year.
Audra Marang moved her office into the guidance suite. This will strengthen her connection to all students and staff broadening her impact on the success of our students. She will continue to work collaboratively with counselors and staff as Work Based Learning coordinator.
Kristen Kelleher will be counselor for all students 9-12. She will provide mental health and social issue intervention/support. Kristen will continue to do student course scheduling as well as junior and senior interviews. Students will no longer be split alphabetically between two counselors.
Mary Crelley has moved into the main office (Mick’s old office). She will serve as assistant to the principal as .2 of her position. The remaining portion of her day will be focused on working collaboratively with staff supporting students. This will include:
coordinating RTI
oversight and monitoring of academically at risk students and students being tutored
chairing the building mental health team
oversight of AP, AccelurateU and Gemini courses
coordinating testing (Regents, PSAT’s, AP exams)
managing the master schedule and scheduling process
Even though some roles and responsibilities have been realigned, everyone will continue to support each other and step in to assist as needed.
Physical Building updates:
- The crews have done an excellent job at getting the building ready for opening day. All areas of the building have been cleaned and several areas painted. Make sure to thank the facilities crews – they worked very hard this summer.
- Computer imaging has been done.
- If you have any maintenance or technology issues please enter them in QueCenter.
Staff Opening Days of School:
- Opening days of school for staff are August 28th and 29th. You will be receiving specific information on attendance and activities for these days. Please make sure you check your email.
Miscellaneous Updates:
- Just a reminder that all report cards, interim reports and teacher letters should be sent electronically. You will be given a list of families that have indicated they need paper copies. Our job is to support these families with paper copies.
- Here is the latest Draft Master Schedule, Letter Day Calendar and Block Schedule. A copy of the official Master Schedule will be in your mailbox along with the letter day calendar and other 2018-2019 documents. You can also utilize the Ruben A. Cirillo High School Google calendar to ensure the letter days and building events are on your Google calendar. They have been added to the Schoology High School Staff Calendar group as well.
See you on the 28th!
Matt
