Community Crew News #31
March 30th, 2024
Greetings Conway Community!
As an Expeditionary Learning school, our model is guided by thirty-seven Core Practices. Core Practice 26, Promoting Courage and Adventure promotes the kinds of adventures that create opportunities for leadership and collaboration as groups of learners are faced with learning tasks in the outdoor classroom, guided by their Expeditions, long term in-depth projects, as a place to demonstrate academic courage, grappling and risk-taking.
Just before spring break, our 3rd grade students investigated the natural world on field work to Elfin Forrest where our learners put on their researcher's hats and investigated the Escondido watershed by conducting investigations by testing water samples.
6th Grade Camp - Promoting Courage and Adventure
During spring break, many of our 6th graders participated in a wonderful opportunity to get outdoors for a week long adventure up in the Cuyamaca Mountains.
The spirit courage and adventure was encouraged by teachers and leaders as learners work on building their courage across multiple aspects of their academic and social lives. Coach Kallan Campa led our learners through tasks that challenged our students to stretch their comfort zones, work together to accomplish difficult tasks, and gain confidence in their individual skills. Multiple opportunities were created for learners to reflect on and learn from success and challenges in their physical and academic adventures in the natural world.
As Empowered Learners , our students are curious, self-direct, and able to overcome challenges in pursuit of their interest and goals. Empowered Learner is one of the six whole-learner outcomes that comprise the new EUSD Learner Profile, part of our Framework for the Future. This 6th grade Camp certainly promoted our students to grow as Empowered Learners.
Kindergarten Egg Hunt
As we prepared for spring break, our kindergarten students learning task was to collect exactly twelve eggs in this special event created by our kinder team and families. Our learners did eggmazingly well and inspired a joyful last day before break.
Now that Spring break is coming to an end and students return on Tuesday, April 2nd, I hope was able to spend some time enjoying the spirit of the spring season with family and friends and spent a joyful Easter, Holi, or Ramadan holiday.

Escondido CATS, Comprehensive Active Transportation Strategy
Did you know that 30% of Escondido families do not own a car, making it extremely difficult for parents/guardians to transport their students to and from school, especially with the heavy rains we have been experiencing. If there is a time to advocate for improvements, the time is now!
The City of Escondido received a Clean Mobility Options (CMO) grant to conduct a Community Transportation Needs Assessment (CTNA). Clean mobility includes modes such as walking, biking, scootering, skateboarding, transit, electric vehicles, shared mobility services, and more. Please share your experience using clean mobility options in Escondido by filling out this brief survey. Your answers will be used to help the City determine what new or expanded mobility services would be preferred and utilized by community members to meet transportation needs.
