The Pawsome Print
September 23, 2022
Dear Pawsome Loring Families,
Coming up, we have our Book Fair tonight (and tomorrow) and our annual Leopard Fest tomorrow. If you have not attended the Leopard Fest before, it is a wonderful community event that you don't want to miss! If you did not buy your tickets for Leopard fest don't worry, they can be purchased with cash at the door ($8.00 for kids, no charge for adults).
Thank you to everyone for your donations at our first food pantry of the year. I know the Sudbury Food Pantry is grateful and it was wonderful to see kids and adults working together to sort all of the food today. If you forgot to bring in your donation no stress, they will be collecting them at Leopardfest or we have a bin in the school lobby for donations any time.
We have no school Monday but we are excited to see everyone ready to learn on Tuesday. Enjoy the fall weather!
National Hispanic Heritage Month
Every year from September 15 to October 15, Americans celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month by appreciating the community’s history, heritage, and contributions of the ancestors of American citizens who came from Mexico, Spain, the Caribbean, and South, and Central America.
At Loring School, we will be learning about some very important people, events, and histories during the morning announcements, during Spanish classes, and at other times throughout the school day. It is the opportune time to reflect upon the many achievements and histories of Latinx people in the United States.
Here are a few websites that can help you support learning at home. If you have resources or books that would enhance our school's learning, please let us know.

SERF
A special thanks to Charlotte Fixler, our Loring SERF Liaison for presenting at Open House. Please see the attached flyer and this link for more information about how SERF continues to support our students and schools.
Attendance Policy and Letters
If your child is going to be out of school, please make sure you let the office know of the absence and the reason. "My child has a fever" or "My child will be out of town at a family wedding." While an email to the teacher is always welcome, it should not be the primary way to report your child's absence.
Each student's absence, tardy, or early dismissal will be coded as excused or unexcused.
An excused absence includes:
Documented illness or injury
Bereavement/family funeral
Major religious observances
Extraordinary family circumstances
An unexcused absence includes, but is not limited to:
Chronic absences or tardies without medical documentation
Truancy
Non-emergency family situations
Family vacations/family days
We are required to send attendance letters for students that have 5 unexcused absences, tardies or early dismissals and meetings will be requested. For students that have 10+ unexcused absences, tardies or early releases from school letters will be sent and meetings will be required. We are committed to working together with families to ensure that all of our students are in school regularly.
The office is finding the google form where you let us know your child will be absent, tardy or dismissed early very helpful. Please consider using it to report any of these circumstances. bit.ly/LoringAbsent
Fire and Safety Drills
The teachers are highly skilled at delivering information in a calm, age-appropriate way. They talk about how it is unlikely that we have a fire at school, but we practice fire drills so we are ready for that emergency. We practice any drills -- fire drills, safety drills, bus evacuation drills -- to be better prepared.
We do not use terms like “armed intruder” or “gunman” in elementary school. We use terms like “someone who doesn’t belong in the school,” “stranger,” or “intruder.” For many very young students, none of these terms are necessary. We will simply say in any emergency, look for the grown up for directions.

Loring Core Values
At Loring School, we are PAWSOME because we show our Core Values! These values are part of everyday life at Loring and reinforced in the classroom, on the playground and all around school. Students are taught the meaning of each word and how they make us better students and citizens.
Respect ~ Responsibility ~ Caring ~ Best Effort
The Loring Pledge
The Loring Pledge is said every morning during announcements. Loring students embody our pledge and we hope this stays with them not only when they are at school but home as well.
