Environmental issues in Canada:
The Canadian shield, a large part of Canada and is very important to Canada's economy, has another environmental issue in Canada, which is the over extraction and overuse of natural resources. This is because the mining and blasting of the land leaves has damaged and ruined the land around the mines and hurts the environment. Mining processes leave chemicals in the air, which also causes acid rain. Canada's government has reduced the amount of mining allowed in the shield and raw materials exported.
Canada is leading producer of timber products due to it being covered with many forests. This hurts the environment because of many reasons. One reason is the heavy machinery used to cut down the trees leaves the ground compacted.citizens are also concerned that logging is destroying the forest. Logging is destroying the forest by killing animals habitats and causing erosion. Canada's government and industry have found a solution to this problem by planting seedlings and paying for the managing and protecting of the forest.
Quebec's Independence Movement:
From 1980 to 1995 the people voted whether or not to stay in Quebec. The last vote's percentages were very close, but 50.6% voted to stay and only 49.4% voted to secede. Right now Canada does not want Quebec to secede because Quebec is rich in natural resources and has access to many waterways. The Canadian government has made a few reforms to keep the separatists happy. These reforms include passing laws to help preserve their language and culture and the Constitution Act in 1982 making the country bilingual. Today French is the only official language in Quebec. Some people are happy with the changes already made, but others still think Quebec should secede from Canada.
