Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 7th October 2016
a capital trip
Year 6 have spent three days in London this week. Their adventures began with a tour of St Paul's Cathedral with a climb to the top of the dome. They also enjoyed seeing Matilda the Musical at the Cambridge Theatre before eating at the Rainforest Café. On their second day they explored the Tate Modern and the Globe Theatre where they were led in a theatrical workshop with one of the actors. They also had a tour of the Palace of Westminster where they learned about the electoral system and voted a new Prime Minister into post. They have aslo visited the Natural History Museum and went on the London Eye at night, the views were magical. Many comments were made by members of the public about their excellent behaviour. Thank you to all of the staff who gave up time away from their own families to support this visit.
year 3 - welcome worship
year 4 - romans for a day
Year 4 had a wonderful time being Romans for a day on Tuesday. Equipped with their uniform, helmet, spear and shield, the children were put through their paces learning how a fort is built and laid out before going on to learn the skills of weapons training (using dummy weapons!), guard duty, craft work, and parade ground drill. Some of the recruits were quite successful. Although Mr Richardson and Mr Housely were more 'home guard' than 'Roman guard'!

parent teacher meetings 14th October
We hope you enjoy sharing the books your child has brought home today. Please feel free to make comments on the sheet that came home too.
To provide you with as much information as possible we are also sending home a brief written report so you can see how your child has settled into the new school year.
Please remember that this year all teachers will offer appointments on FRIDAY 14TH OCTOBER. This is a training day and children will not be in school (although they are welcome to attend the appointment with you). If you are unable to book an appointment on the Friday, some alternative evening slots have been made available. Slots are booked online, as explained in the letter sent out on Wednesday. The booking system is still live and can be accessed by clicking below.
embroidered hoodies
All order slips (as long as money was included with the order) have been collated and delivered to the School Uniform Shop. The hoodies are on the way. We will distribute them directly to the children (packed in a plastic bag so you can name them before they are worn).
Do you have a spare room?
As yet we have not had any volunteers to give a temporary home to our Spanish student.
Our partnership with the university in Segovia continues this year. We hope to welcome another trainee teacher to join us. We are looking for a family with a spare room who would be willing to host the student. The willing family could specify a male or female student. It is an excellent opportunity for your children to improve their Spanish and learn about a different culture. They would pay towards their accommodation costs up to £200 per month and are expected to contribute to the household for example cleaning, cooking or babysitting. The school depends on host families for this project to continue. If you would like more information please pop into the school office or see Mrs Binks.
reminder: school closed as normal Friday 14th October - day set aside for parent meetings - you are welcome to bring your child
Friends of Ripon Cathedral School Update
After a good tidy up of the Friends storage shed in preparation for forthcoming events we realise we are in need of more prizes for the Christmas raffle. A big thank you for the generous donations already received in response to the flyer that went out in book bags last week. Any further donations gratefully received in the school office. Thank you.
All welcome to the next Friends meeting on Tuesday 18th October at 2 pm in school, where we will be planning the school disco and Christmas events. We'd love to hear your ideas and appreciate any support you can offer.
Please come along to the next Friends 'Tea, Coffee and Toast' morning on Thursday 20th October from 9am in the spare classroom. All parents /carers very welcome. We look forward to seeing you there!
