Panther Message:
Dear Panthers,
The Thanksgiving Holiday is next week. That means students are going to be out of school for a few days. We will have school next week, and we need all students to attend every day. Students will not have school on Thursday, November 24th, and Friday, November 25th, of next week.
As the year moves swiftly, we must continue encouraging students to be positive and do their best. Helping them practice reading at night can really help students progress in their reading ability and help them grow as lifelong learners. Please make sure to keep routines in place over the Thanksgiving Holiday break. This will help them transition back to school after the holiday.
Attendance:
As we prepare to take a short break from school for Thanksgiving, we want to express our gratitude for everyone who makes it possible for as many students as possible to come to school every day, on time, ready to learn. We thank:
Our students and families for making daily attendance a priority since they know the habit of attendance will help them do well in the classroom and eventually in a job.
Our wonderful teachers who pour their energy into making each classroom an exciting place for exploration and knowledge so children do not want to miss out on learning
Our support staff and community volunteers who provide the extra hands and attention our children need.
We especially appreciate everyone’s efforts to avoid taking extra days off during the Thanksgiving holiday. Just a few missed days here and there, even if they’re excused absences, can add up to too much lost learning time and leave your child behind in school. This is as true in kindergarten as it is in high school.
Native American Heritage Month/Land Acknowledgement:
November is Native American Heritage Month, or as it is commonly referred to, American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month. The month is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and acknowledge Native American people's important contributions. Native American Heritage Month is also an opportune time to educate the general public about tribes, to raise general awareness about the unique challenges Native people have faced both historically and in the present, and the ways in which tribal citizens have worked to conquer these challenges. We are walking on Native American land and I would like all students to know that our school and community are located on lands that Native Americans originally inhabited. "The Portland Metro area rests on traditional village sites of the Multnomah, Wasco, Cowlitz, Kathlamet, Clackamas, Bands of Chinook, Tualatin, Kalapuya, Molalla, and many other tribes who made their homes along the Columbia River creating communities and summer encampments to harvest and use the plentiful natural resources of the area" (Portland Indian Leaders Roundtable, 2018).
*Please make sure to pick up your student at 2:27 PM; everyday students can not be left unattended. Teachers are not able to watch students after school is dismissed.
*Please use the crosswalk when crossing Main Street. When you cross the street without using the crosswalk, it is unsafe. Often, the oncoming traffic cannot see individuals crossing the street between parked cars.
*Please make sure and send your student with warm coats. The weather is getting cold. If you need a coat, let us know. We will take the kids outside for recess even if it is raining.
*Please pick your students up promptly after school. We do not have the staff to monitor unmet students.
