Hello Ivy Families,
We hope everyone was able to meet with their child's teacher at our Parent/Teacher conferences - the staff enjoyed meeting all of you!
As you know, the weather in Chicago is always changing! Please make sure that your child is dressed for the weather! We try to get them outside for a little while every day and it can be quite cold if they don't have a coat, hat and gloves!
You should have received an email from me about our Halloween parties and parade. If you haven't seen it, there is a copy below. It has everything you could ever want to know about our Halloween procedures...and then some!
Our "Ivy Gives Back" week is coming soon so stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks!
As always - Stay safe, stay kind and stay courageous!

Approximately 1:45 PM for the K-5 parade, with classroom parties immediately following
Approximately 11:45 AM for AM Kindergarten parade
Below are answers to questions you may have about our annual Halloween celebration. Your cooperation to our times and procedures will provide an organized event and account for the safety of all our students. We appreciate your support.
************************************************************************************************************
What are the costume guidelines for school?
We ask for your partnership in choosing school appropriate costumes that have no sharp objects, weapons, blood, gore, etc. Students are able to wear make-up and masks (non-latex), as long as it does not interfere with their vision and walking. Students changing at school may apply make-up that can be done independently. We appreciate your understanding and support with these procedures.
When should my child wear his/her costume to school?
Our AM Kindergarten students should wear their costumes to school. All other students wear their costumes after lunch. Students in extended day Kindergarten and first through fifth should not come to school with make-up applied in the morning.
When is the morning Kindergarten Parade?
Our morning Kindergarten students parade at 11:45. Weather permitting, the students will exit the Kindergarten Door (#14) and then walk down the sidewalk towards the Main Entrance.
Can my AM Kindergartner join the whole school parade in the afternoon?
Yes. We do allow any AM Kindergartner to join the whole school parade in the afternoon. We ask that you email your child’s teacher to let them know that your child will be joining. To participate, an adult MUST drop off the student at 1:40 at the Kindergarten doors and then pick them up at the same door immediately after the parade.
Can I send treats to my classroom?
We do not allow students to bring any food items for our celebrations. We focus our classroom parties by celebrating together through games, crafts, and activities.
Can my child go home for lunch to change into a costume?
Yes. A digital permission slip form is linked below. Please complete the form indicating if your child will be going home. If advanced notice is not provided, parents must come into the building and sign out their child to go home for lunch.
Our family does not celebrate Halloween. Will alternate activities be provided for my child at school?
Yes. We do provide alternate activities for students who choose to stay at school. Please indicate on the permission slip below if you prefer to keep your child home or if you would like them to attend our alternative activities.
When is the lunch period for students who stay at school?
Our lunch period will remain the same from 12:10 - 1:10 PM. We will have the scheduled lunch options (both hot and cold) for that day.
If my child stays at school for lunch can they change into their costume at school?
Yes. Following lunch recess, students who stay for lunch will change into their costumes before the parade begins. Staff member support will be provided to help students change into costumes, but all make-up will need to be applied individually by students. Please do not send any materials in aerosol cans (hair spray, hair color, silly string, etc.)
What is the parade route?
Weather permitting, the parade route will start at our back entrance (the bus doors) and walk to the Valley and Burke intersection, then down Burke in front of the school, and along the sidewalk in our parking lot to the main entrance doors. Classroom parties will immediately follow the parade and only designated classroom reps are allowed in the building at that time.
What if it rains that day?
If it rains, we will cancel the parade as we do not have an indoor option for families. We will email families via School Messenger.

We make every attempt to maintain an appropriate learning environment during morning instruction. Your cooperation will assist us in making Halloween a day for both learning and celebrating. We look forward to seeing you at the parade!

CALENDAR FOR THE 2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR
Please print this calendar and put it on your fridge!! District 25 and District 214 (the high schools) have different holidays so please be sure to send your child on the appropriate days!
MY BELONGINGS!
Please send a change of clothes along with underwear and socks in a plastic bag to your child's teacher. We do not have a lot of space to keep extras in our nurse's office and you just never know when kids will need a clean shirt or pair of socks!
Please mark all personal items with your child's name. Lunch boxes, water bottles, backpacks, coats, etc. This is for all grades!!
ATTENDANCE MATTERS!!
The front office staff MUST be notified if your child is going to be late, leave early or be absent from school. There are two ways to do this:
1. ABSENCE HOT LINE: Available 24 hours a day, 7 days each week!
Dial the main office number 847-398-4275 and Press 1 for attendance
2. ONLINE ABSENCE FORM: Available 24 hours a day, 7 days each week!

BREAKFAST & LUNCH QUESTIONS
Ivy Hill is lucky to have Mrs. Khan and Mrs. Moncada back this year to serve breakfast and lunch to all of our students!
Breakfast will be served at 8:45 each morning - the cost is $1.75. If your child rides the bus, have them come directly to the commons when they arrive at school.
Lunch schedules change each week - beginning on Monday, 8/29, we will be on Schedule B. Click here for the menu. The cost for lunch is $3.25.
The easiest way to pay for breakfast and lunch to set up an account at MyMealTime.com. Call the office for your child's student ID number. You can also send cash. Please put the cash in an envelope with your child's name on it.
Download the Choosi app to help manage your child's account.
We’d love to hear from you!
