Welcome, Mr. Jeremiah, to Norwood!
"Hello Norwood families! It's a pleasure to be here. My role here is to help bring many community services to the school so that all Norwood students and families can be successful! I am from New York City and I went to Goucher College in Maryland as well as University of Baltimore. I practice five languages (English, Spanish, Swahili, Portuguese, American Sign Language) and I have a background in English-Spanish interpretation as well as teaching. In my free time, I like to cook, practice languages, and play with my two kittens. I love to talk with families to help them reach their goals. I’m looking forward to meeting all of you! "

The exact date and time for our next session in February will be announced in our next newsletter. We do know that our new School to Community Facilitator, Omari Jeremiah, will join Mr. Castro in explaining how their roles work together with a new designation for Norwood that can bring more supports to our students and families. February Math Unit Overviews for Families
Here are the Math unit overviews for January by grade level, in English and Spanish. The first newsletter of the month will focus on Math while the second newsletter of the month will cover reading & writing via English Language Arts (ELA). Last month was an exception due to all the weather-related closures and delays, but we're back on schedule now! As always, these unit overviews are useful tools for the family to look over together and help manage expectations for your child prior to starting a new unit.

CCBC Family Literacy ESOL Program for Spring 2022
In October we had shared information for the Winter 2022 term, and now this is for the upcoming Spring 2022 term. The Family Literacy ESOL Program for non-native English-speaking parents is designed to help them learn English language skills for life, work, and to help with their child’s education. The parent must have a child 0–16 years old living in the home and enrolled in a Baltimore County Public School, the Judy Center of Baltimore County or Baltimore County Head Start program.
Parents in our area interested in enrolling for this FREE course need to register in-person at one of five locations around Baltimore County. The closest registration locations, as noted in the flyer below, are the North Point Library Community Room in Dundalk or a classroom within Hawthorne Elementary School in Middle River. Classes will be held twice a week with time slots available in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Please click below for more information via the program flyer.
Reminder from the School Nurse
Students who show any signs of illness should STAY HOME! Call the nurse (443-809-6029) to find out when they can return.
COVID-19 tests should NOT be taken right away, but rather, after 1-2 days of illness. Tests taken too soon tend to show false negatives.
Children should be drinking plenty of fluids to stay hydrated in addition to eating and sleeping well. Exercise is great, so have them go outside and be active!
PLEASE HAVE YOUR CHILDREN WEAR WINTER COATS! We've seen a number of students arrive in the morning without a jacket, and in the event there's a fire drill or they need to spend more time outside than originally planned, they should be dressed accordingly for the weather. Please have students check with the nurse if they do not have adequate cold weather gear.
