6 & 8th Religion, 6th LA - December 11, 2015
Updates & Announcements
*Thank you for your generosity to the Giving Tree. Here are a few "ground rules" in returning the items:
- Items need to be returned by December 15th.
- Items should be new.
- Each donation should be wrapped.
- Items should be clearly labeled with the name of recipient.
--> Example: For John (c/o Smith family)
*8th grade students are invited to help sort the Giving Tree items on Tuesday, December 15, directly after school at the North Park campus. Email me (kfoyle@icsjschool.org) if your child is interested in earning some service hours through this project.
*Join us for Wednesday Mass at St. Joseph's at 8 a.m. It will be hosted by 6A.
Please note that after Mass, weather-permitting, we will be walking over to North Park to see the Christmas show rehearsal. Please make sure your child brings a coat and any necessary cold weather accessories on 12/16. Thank you!
*Join Hill Street 4-8th grade students for the Christmas show on Thursday, December 17, at 6:30 p.m. A flyer with times and a dress code for students was sent home last week - please see this for details or reach out to Mrs. Lewis.
*Friday, December 18, is an early dismissal (11:30 a.m. at Hill Street). No aftercare is available. Please make plans accordingly for the start of our Christmas break.
*8th grade parents - Be sure to check out the Decision Point (Confirmation prep) program website to see some of the videos we're watching and reflecting on in class.
*December 8th marked the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. Additionally, it was the start of the Jubilee Year of Mercy. Check out the "Year of Mercy in 60 Seconds" Lego video below.
6B is ready to "a door" Jesus!

After Friday's grammar quiz, we are taking a hiatus until after the Christmas break. (Did you notice the complex sentence I just used? Be sure to ask your child about differentiating between compound and complex sentences!)
Students have written an expository paragraph and a persuasive paragraph in response to The Hobbit. Next week, we will finish up with narrative writing, and students will be asked to develop a short alternate ending for the novel. Let the creativity begin!
6 Religion
Upcoming Assessment: Project (in-class) on the Old Testament figures we've studied (Adam & Eve, Cain & Abel, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, and the 6 mentioned above).
