April 20th, 2019
Dear Poupard Families,
Reconfiguration Process
I would personally like to thank our entire Poupard community for your support during these times of uncertainty. As many of you have heard by now, Grosse Pointe Schools has been battling declining enrollment and the Board of Education is looking for ways to counteract those declines while ensuring we provide an excellent education for our students and remaining fiscally responsible. I encourage all parents to go to the Blue Ribbon Link (Click here), which is found on the GP website, to continue to be up-to-date on the current facts.
I will be hosting a series of Coffee with the Principals over the next few weeks to meet with families and answer their questions. If those dates and times don't work for your schedule, I am happy to schedule a meeting with families that are seeking additional information about the process. Please know my door is always open.
Please keep in mind that no decisions have been made yet (The Board of Education will be making all decisions) and I will keep everyone informed of any changes the Board of Education decides to propose.
Thank you for making Poupard an amazing place to be!!

Cell Phone and Internet Safety
Are your children safe while online? Michigan families, especially minors, are becoming inundated with advertisements from alcohol, tobacco, pornography, illegal drug and gambling marketers through different internet and cell phone inboxes. Texting their advertisements is the newest marketing effort that many of these companies are using. Thankfully, the Michigan Secretary of State’s office offers a free program to stop adult advertisements from reaching your email address and cell number via text. The Michigan Child Protection Registry is a free do-not-contact service for Michigan’s families.
As a strong supporter of this Registry, I would like to encourage you to sign your entire family up for this program and inform your friends and colleagues about how they can protect their children and families from unwanted adult advertising. To sign up only takes seconds. Just go to www.ProtectMIChild.com and keep your family safe.
Sincerely,
Principal Ali
Notes from the Office Staff
Pizza Sales
On Tuesday's Poupard sells pizza for $1.50 a slice. The pizza is delivered to the students classrooms at the end of the day. Money generated from this fundraiser is invested directly back to our students and building. Our current goal is to provide water bottle filling stations for our students.
Tardies
Poupard realizes that occasionally morning tardiness cannot be avoided. The problem arises when late arrival occurs often. The tardy students miss attendance, lunch count and directions for the morning. We ask that families do their best to bring students on time. However, if your student is tardy you MUST come to the office to sign them in.
Thank you!!!

Camp Invention is returning to Grosse Pointe Public School District!
Camp Invention® is returning to Grosse Pointe Public School District!
In partnership with the National Inventors Hall of Fame® (NIHF), Brownell Middle School is pleased to offer the nationally acclaimed Camp Invention® program to children entering kindergarten through sixth grade. It’s an exciting, weeklong summer adventure with lessons that explore connections between science, technology, engineering and innovation. Children work together to create solutions to real-world problems and build critical 21st-century skills while rotating through several high-energy, hands-on modules. The week begins on June 24, 2019 with Caitlin Kefgen serving as Director of the ALL-NEW 2019 program, Supercharged!
Here are how young innovators will be spending their time:
Exploring the electrifying relationship between frequency, circuitry, motors and gears through reverse-engineering and rebuilding their very own remote-controlled robot.
Unearthing hidden fossils then building ships and innovative equipment to embark on a research expedition to uncover more exciting information about their discovery.
Coding and programming robot, Bot-ANN-E, to take on duties and help turn a polluted wasteland into a fruitful farm and successful business.
Collaborating with the Innovation Force®, a team of NIHF Inventors turned action-packed superheroes, to design superhero gadgets and disguises, explore the fields of engineering and fabrication and take on the sinister villain, the Plagiarizer.
Activities give participants the opportunity to explore, discover and achieve while having fun!
Local educators facilitate program modules and enthusiastic high-school students serve as Leadership Interns, ensuring that one staff member is in place for every eight children.
Register using promo code PLAY15LISTING to save $15 (expires 5/10) OFF $270. Every registration includes a complimentary Camp Invention t-shirt. Availability is limited, so visit www.invent.org/camp or call 800-968-4332 to secure your child’s spot today!

Word of mouth remains the most powerful marketing tool. Help us encourage community members with little ones to explore our neighborhood schools.
It is critical that families establish or verify residency soon if they have a student entering GPPSS next fall, particularly for kindergarten (by May 1).
