Culture:
- For culture, we will focus mainly on Central America and the Spanish-speaking Caribbean Islands. We will also seize every opportunity and use every teachable moment to learn about other places in the world, learn vocabulary and expressions in different languages. At least 15 languages are spoken at home by different Dove families.
- Your child is always welcome to bring an item that represents another culture or country for show-and-tell.
- Please consider participating in our 7th Annual World Friendship Day if you have knowledge of living abroad, have visited other countries or would simply like to represent a culture or a country. The children are eager to learn more about the world! The date has been set for February 9th 2018.
Art:
Art will be infused into the language curriculum and the culture curriculum.
- Art contests: The first contest is The Butterfly Flutterby sponsored by The Grapevine Garden Club. It is open to all GCISD K-5th grade students. The celebration of the monarch butterfly migration from Canada to Mexico via Grapevine will take place on October 14th. Entry forms will be sent home soon.
- Artsonia: This year, we may begin uploading student artwork onto Artsonia for you to see. It is a secure website that allows you, the parents, grandparents, friends and family to view your child's artwork from anywhere in the world. You can also order specialized keepsakes with your child's masterpiece on them. All I need is your permission to upload the artwork. No last names will appear on any picture. If you would like to learn more about Artsonia, go to: http://www.artsonia.com/about.asp
Google Drive:
- Google Drive will be used to save student work.
Behavior:
- I follow the classroom teachers in their rules of conduct. We promote and celebrate positive behaviors. Behavior that interferes with learning will be addressed promptly.
Fiestas:
On Thursday, May 24th, 2018, Kinder and 1st grade classes will have a grade-level fiesta to celebrate students' accomplishments in my class. Your help will be appreciated. Stay tuned!
Personal note:
I am very excited to continue in my role as the Multicultural Language and Art Expressions teacher! My hope for this year is to expose my students to languages (primarily Spanish), cultures (primarily the Hispanic cultures) and art. I will continue to support the classroom teachers in their implementation of the IB Transdisciplinary Themes. I hope to be able to help your children gain a better understanding of the world around them.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME...
I was fortunate to have lived around the world, experienced various cultures and learned different languages. I speak English, French, Arabic and Spanish. I'm the proud mother of three grown children who graduated from GCISD. I have a degree in Advertising and Public Relations from the University of Tulsa, OK. I am also certified in Travel, Tourism and Transportation. I have done translations and interpretations. I also enjoyed managing a family business for a short time. Education is where my heart finally settled. I've been an educator AND a learner for the past 22 years, of which 17 have been at GCISD.
I love learning about places, people and cultures and so ten year ago, I founded the first elementary Culture Clubs in the district (Glenhope & Dove Elementary). I also organized the first World Friendship Day at both schools. I believe that, in order to be global citizens, we must begin by educating ourselves. Knowledge could lead to tolerance, acceptance and understanding. I hold the position of Vice-Chair of the district's Diversity Advisory Council.
Besides languages and cultures, I enjoy art, photography and enjoy preparing international dishes. I am very grateful for my role as the McLAE teacher! I have the opportunity to teach everything I love and look forward to an amazing year of learning with your precious children! Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
