November Greetings!
Kindergarten - 6th Grade Newsletter
November. How did that happen? It feels as though someone hit the fast forward button! We have successfully hosted our first Middle School Recognition Breakfast, the first Super Hero Assembly, Parent Teacher conferences, a field trip to the Minnesota State Capitol, a guest speaker to teach about arctic glaciers and many other activities that build a positive school community. These are 'big' moments and part of the great traditions at K-W Schools but the small moments that happen each day are the real connections that truly make K-W great! I am thankful for staff members and students who invest in each other and make each day fulfilling and enjoyable.
I look forward to working together to make it a great year for your child(ren).

Join the "SADIE CHALLENGE"!
Third grade student Sadie S. donated $10.60 of her own money to the Elementary Angel Fund. She wanted to help students who do not have money for lunches nor snacks.
Her story inspired school board members, administrators, teachers, staff members and even a sixth grade student to match her donation! To date, $242. 90 has been collected in her name!
She is a true example of how one act of kindness grows into multiple acts of kindness! Thank you for your shining example Sadie!
If you would like to join the "SADIE CHALLENGE", simply place $10.60 in an envelope labeled "SADIE CHALLENGE" and send to K-W Elementary School.

Birthday Invitations
Thank you for handling party and play-date invitations outside of school. We work hard to create an inclusive, respectful community at our schools and in our classrooms. Passing out invitations to a select group of students is not respectful to the children who are not invited. Please use the student directory to obtain contact information for party invitations and send invites via email or US Mail.

School Bus Transportation
Please review with your child the bus safety expectations from our student handbook. Minnesota Statute #123.801 reminds us bus transportation is a privilege and not a right. Eligibility to ride the bus is dependent on students following school bus safety and conduct regulations. Students who do not obey the bus driver and/or do not comply with behavior expectations may be denied bus privileges. School bus expectations are outlined below:
- Follow the driver's instructions
- Remain seated until the bus comes to a complete stop
- Speak in an indoor voice
- Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself
- Don't throw objects - neither in the bus or out the window
- Be kind to the people around you
- Do not harm the bus in any way
Thank you for your help!
A.L.I.C.E. Safety Drills
- A - Alert. This is recognizing the signs of danger and receiving information about the danger from others.
- L - Lockdown. If evacuation is not a safe option, barricade the entry points and prepare to counter.
- I - Inform. Use clear language to communicate information about the location of a threat.
- C - Counter. As a last resort, create noise, movement, distance and distraction to maintain safety.
- E - Evacuate. When safe to do so, exit the building and run to the predetermined rally point.
Most Goodhue County schools are using the same approach. This helps streamline police response to a safety threat at one of our schools. Our first A.L.I.C.E. style drill will be conducted on Wednesday, November 13th.
