Hope at Sunrise
Hope is a word that we focus on at Sunrise. Hope is not just a feeling, it is also a cognitive process that can be developed and taught. Hope involves envisioning a better future, setting goals, and believing in the possibility of achieving them. This often involves planning, problem-solving, and taking action toward desired outcomes - these are all skills we want to foster and build in our Sunrise Eagles.
Our goal in promoting and teaching hope is to give students a powerful resource, enabling them to navigate adversity and pursue their goals. Hope is a fundamental aspect of the human experience, driving resilience, growth, and positive change, and we hope that by encouraging these skills in our students we set them up to be optimistic learners who believe in themselves!

April Curriculum Highlight - Fountas and Pinnell
Fountas and Pinnell Classroom is an integrated system designed to support literacy instruction. It is a tool all Enumclaw School District elementary schools have in grades K-2. Fountas and Pinnell Classroom provides a comprehensive framework for literacy instruction, and includes a range of resources and tools that address various aspects of literacy, such as reading, writing, and language development.
We do not utilize the phonics aspect of the Fountas and Pinnell Classroom curriculum at Sunrise, as the curricula from Heggerty and UFI that we have in place are backed by research and found to be more comprehensive when addressing phonics and phonemic awareness.
The Fountas and Pinnell Classroom curriculum provides resources that cater to students' diverse needs and abilities when it comes to reading. The system emphasizes guided reading as a key instructional approach. It provides leveled books and resources for guided reading sessions, allowing teachers to work with small groups of students at their instructional reading level. The system encourages active participation and fosters a love for reading, which, in addition to mastery of core reading skills, is what we want to develop in all of our learners!
Parents/guardians must be volunteers in order to help in classrooms, eat lunch in the lunchroom with their child, or visit the playground to join their child at recess. The volunteer application is available by clicking the link below.
